Oh yes...we're so going to the World Cup...hopefully. One more match to go. Well played today but should have been a higher win. It's going to be tight.

Yes, I saw some highlights. Great game from the looks of it! Swiss football is getting quite strong in recent years.![]()
I was thinking, us footy fans should maybe open a combined thread next wednesday to discuss the results from all the return matches.
Now that, my friend, is an excellent idea...now with the world cup (note to yanks:this involves ALL of the planet, not just USAOriginally Posted by Louis IV the Fat

There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

I have to congratulate Swiss team on the field. Our wing backs were sleeping throughout the match, that's how we fell apart..
But the rest off the field was a shame for a democracy idol country.. They pushed it too far from a rivalry. Still it's been discussed here how the players and the coach swore at Turkish players in the tunnel to the dressing rooms.
The papers are all headlined towards a fightback / pay off here - not the stuff those papers do after every defeat.
Watch the next match on Wednesday. We had a fight back from 3-0 to 5-0 in the past, that's what you'll be seeing in Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on Wednesday - true hell-ish stadium of Turkey.
P.S. Stickying a gathered thread would be a good idea until the end of the World Cup matches.. Top management, what do you think please ?

There has been a lot of discussion before the match about the Turks here and how they were allegedly treated. Accusing the Swiss of human rights voilationsand other such nonesense. The audacity of such statements strike me as strange if not outright bollocks.
I have no doubt that it will be hell in Turkey. We will have a true winner after that match. The loser will not go to the World Cup; and deserveably so. I am not too confident that the Swiss team will make it but on the other hand, it would be a pity since we have now the best team we have had for years.Originally Posted by LeftEyeNine

The US is marching backward to the values of Michael Stivic.
Fatih Terim, in his press conference, told that Alexander Frei swore at him and his family and that Senderos struck the ball towards them in the tunnel..
Whatever it is, they should be a lot excited about defeating one of the best teams in Europe, that's why some of them went over the line..
Anyway, I hope the best team wins on Wednesday, however I have to remind that Sukru Saracoglu is a European-standards qualified stadium with 60.000 attendence capacity. What's more migthy-shorthy Emre and Hamit will be available for the next match, that will improve a lot for our midfield organization and offensive capability.
Good luck, quid...![]()
Well this is surprising, Turkey is no pushover. Congrats to the swiss![]()

Go Swiss! Whenever a Turkish team takes a match at least one person is "accidentally" shot by hooligans firing in the air over here. The police? They're simply firing along. So, in any international match, the rival has my support for a less awful day in the life.

Last 9000 tickets before sell-out (by the time today's paper was released), the fans are waiting for Swiss team's arrival at the airport. The disturbing attitude has driven things hot around here. Hope it all goes in bounds of sportsmanship..
The Swiss team reached their hotel after 3.5 hours following their arrival at the airport. They were taken through intensive security precautions including looking for narcotics in their luggage. Their bus were thrown to eggs and bottles of water during their drive to their hotel as well..
I wish for a friendly rivalry on the pitch..
Yeah because obviously if you wanted to smuggle drugs FROM Switzerland TO Turkey (?) putting it in an international footballers hand luggage would be the way to do it.
What a shame English Customs can't spend hours shoving their fingers up the backsides of visiting players before they have their coach bottled on the way to the hotel. Pity that everyone would be up in arms about English hooligans if that happened, I guess our fans would probably fancy a few of the stabbings that seem all part of the fun every time there is a match in Turkey.
What is it LEN, do the Turkish police just not take crowd control very seriously, or what?

The intensive security precautions processed at all terms, don't worry. They already reached safely to their hotels. And at least throwing eggs or plastic bottles of water is a "better" way to show your anger than throwing stones at a bus. I'm happy that people are aware what may happen after such an assault. What is it LEN, do the Turkish police just not take crowd control very seriously, or what?
The Turkish Football Federation already made a public statement that the Swiss must get their answers on the pitch. They told the fans to keep calm.
Turkish flags will be distributed to every fan at the entrance of the stadium just before the match. That will be a true fight on the pitch. Visitor England for qualifications to Euro '04 had been less pressurized.
No serious fanatic incidents have occured at all except for some aggressive banners at the airport and that throwing eggs at the bus.

I might be wrong but no one actually got murdered did they, which is more than can be said for when Leeds played Galatasary in the UEFA cup in 2000. I guess some people remembered the murders. We remember those precautions taken by English security things when Turkish national team landed in England for the international match for Euro '04. But, On topic, DID the Swiss really do anything though or is it all getting out of hand?
After all, some England fans have been known for behaving wrongly, but the Swiss don't exactly have that reputation. It all seems strange to me.

Do not expect me to defend any murderer.. I'm speaking the way in all terms of things happened "legal".. From arrival until departure... Quid may correct me if I'm wrong but some papers continuously pressurized on Fatih Terim in an irrelevant way.He was physically blocked by Swiss security at the stadium when he was trying to enter Press Room. The security were yelling at Turkish footballers after the match, the Swiss player Frei swore at Terim, Senderos struck the ball towards Turkish players in the tunnel. Kuhn humiliated keeper Volkan. But, On topic, DID the Swiss really do anything though or is it all getting out of hand?
What the way could they be any worse sportsmen ?
I did not talk about Swiss fans at all.. Turkish fans can do the same - maybe more..

I'm not LEN but the answer is simple. There is a very, very high chance that you find many hooligans amongst police forces. Read my previous reply: I saw cops firing along hooligans.Originally Posted by English assassin

Mouza, do you refer to cops involved in such BS in other matches or did you see this happening today in the Swiss team's escort ?
Latest news, The Press Director of the Swiss National Team made a quick meeting that Turkish journalists were barely able to listen.
He told that the arrival of Turkish team was not difficult the way they had today. The police line that kept them off the Turkish fans was very weak, easy to break through. And the Swiss players had refused to go to Sukru Saracoglu Stadium for training since that they were so scared. They were also insisting not to go out for a training tomorrow (Tuesday).
He summarized his words with those that they wished if only they could play the match in Ciragan Palace Hotel (where they currently reside). Because they feel that it's the safest place to be.
I wonder how they will feel when they step out in front of 60.000 fans on Wednesday..
By the way, I watched the videos recorded at the airport where our fans were really enthusiastic, no physical contact at all. I even saw one carrying a Turkish flag wide open and following some Swiss offical whereever he went. That was quite funny
Once more, I wish our fans avoiding to throw anything into the pitch. That will cost a lot 'cause they are looking for an excuse.

That was a few years ago. Although there's been some improvement within the police organization since then, in terms of personnel quality, I'm afraid it's minimal and the chance for such bs. to continue is fairly big.

I went past there earlier today. There was no extraordinary security measures at all. The manager of Turkey didn't get more attention than any other manager would have got in his situation. He opened his mouth a little too much and got what he deserved the day after in the newspapers (it wasn't even bad; only the thing about human rights bla bla bla...I don't even remember...).Originally Posted by LeftEyeNine
Anyway, apparently, the Swiss players and coach were also complaining after the match about the constant harrasing of the Turkish coach during the match. Only what I have read in the last two days...otherwise, there is actually quite little news here about Wednesday, so far.
I am sure Turkey will do their best to keep the situation orderly since their qualification hangs in the balance were they to lose control.
I wish, all those petty squbbles would stop and they could just get on with what counts; their job. All I want to see is a good mach and the better team (Switzerland) win.
