No, it's a verified bug (check the BI bugs thread). Whether you tick or untick, the AI takes over your reinforcements and suicides them.

I have never had the AI control my army when I did not want it too yet.

The box was definitely unticked every time this happened.

I had random experience with this.
Sometimes it gets bugged sometimes not.
I'm still not sure what exactly triggers the problem.
BUG-FIXER, an unofficial patch for both Rome: Total War and its expansion pack
Hey all;
I agree, it happened to me in BI...
I had do make a quick assault to avoid losing my reserve
general. Definite Bug. Drove me bananas.![]()
"If you find yourself in the moment where you recognize that history is being made, press pause and acknowledge the future yielding to the past..."
The bug is only related to reinforcing armeis led by generals, don`t know if the main force got anything to say. Most of the time the reinforcing armies(led by generals) are controlled by the AI, but sometimes they aren`t.
Runes for good luck:
[1 - exp(i*2π)]^-1
In 1.2, the AI could control Captain-led armies. In 1.3, it can't, regardless of whether you tick the box or not. Very frustrating, especially when you need reinforcements straightaway on the battlefield.
This means that sometimes, I have to control the captain's army and let the AI control my General's.![]()
Well, it may be that you can't use a lower ranking general to command a higher ranking general.Originally Posted by Viking
It's arguable this makes enough sense to be a "feature", not a bug.
Though, if this were the case they ought not to have left the check box to have the AI control the general active.
In any case, i have gotten in the habit of not leaving captain-led armies in places where they can be used to drag general-led armies into battle. The most annoying of these is the case where you have a fully garrisoned city and train a unit that shows up alone outside that city. If that one unit gets attacked you control it while the AI controls your 20 unit army.
Surely it's far too annoying in a gameplay sense to be a "feature"? I mean if they wanted realism like this we'd be tracing supply routes too....doesn't really fit with CA's "we want it to be fun" message.Originally Posted by dismal

Yup, as Mouzafphaerre says, check this thread for what bugs / errors / glitches etc have been found so far in BI. If you have your own to add to the list, double-check they have not been already posted in the first post, and add them with descriptions and a few screenshots (pictures tell a thousand wordsOriginally Posted by Mouzafphaerre

I have had it happen, but not often. I think it may occur when the reinforcement army is commanded by a general and the main army is commanded by a captain.
It's not happened to me yet. however, i have noticed that if I tick the box, then look at any of the different armies, the box is reticked.
Yes, this is when it happened to me I think....it doesn't help that the AI always attacks the army led by the Captain either.Originally Posted by dismal
