    Default Your Generals religion

In my Western Roman Empire Campaign I have been trying to train christian generals.

Unfortunately wether I train the general from a christian or Pagan settlement he ALWAYS is a Pagan.

Can someone help me in figuring out how to controll the religion of the general you train, or is it 100% random, or is it 100% pagan?

The reason is I would like to train christians for christian cities, and for converting unruly settlements like Corduba and Vicus Saxxones to christianity to have increased loyalty from having a Bassilica, and Monastary level3.

IIRC, the main determinant of a character's religion is the religion of the Faction Leader (something like a 75% chance of "following the leader") but stuff like the father's religion might also have an effect. There's also a bit of randomness thrown in (even if a faction is 100% Pagan, if that faction has the capability to convert to Christianity they'll still get the occasional Christian here and there) The triggers seem to be quite different for each culture type/faction.

You could always send diplomats to look for some promising candidates to bribe. Provided that you have enough money, that is.

RTW, 167 BC: Rome expels Greek philosophers after the Lex Fannia law is passed. This bans the effete and nasty Greek practice of 'philosophy' in favour of more manly, properly Roman pursuits that don't involve quite so much thinking.

My problem isn't with family members though it is with Generals I train, and all other units.

In my Western Roman Empire Campaign I can not train any christian spies, diplomats, or generals, which is annoying because nobody is suited for the East, which is christian or zorastrian.

In all the cases you mentioned, the Faction Leaders religion is the single biggest factor. For the generals you are hiring (3 - 4 turn build is what I am assuming) its 75%.

For agents, assassins have a 10% chance of having religion same as the FL, spies and diplomats have a 10% chance of having same as FL and then another 10% chance of having religion same as city they were built in if they failed the first one. The other 80% (90% in case of assassins) have no religion.

In 79% of cases they do like faction leader.
