Thread: Princesses in TW

  1. #1

    Default Princesses in TW

Since this discussion was started in another thread I'm dedicating this one just for that. You have to agree that princesses in M:TW really look ugly. They look more like 50 rather than 16. The VI ones are an improvement but that still isn't good. Do you agree that CA should pay more attention to the looks of characters in the games? They weren't all that ugly in the middle ages. Oh and what do you think of my new avatar? I still think that my old one is better but I've changed it for fun.

To be honest, I think that there are more important things for CA to do than polishing up the artwork.

Yes, they are not miss universes, but then most women aren't miss universes, and Medieval ideas of beauty differed from our own. Do you rather have CA spending time on making all their princesses look like Claudia Schiffer or on sorting out the glitches in their game engine?

I actually ~really~ like that not all the portraits are idealisticly beautiful in the TW games. I do think some of the princesses are actually attractice though. It is just like real life, just because your wealthy doesn't mean you're a pearl.

I concur with that statement 100%. Besides, as Ludens pointed out, CA was probably better off devoting their resources to other aspects of the game anyway. Don't get me wrong; I'm all for "realistic" portraits--just not at the expense of other parts of the game (AI, graphics, artwork, etc.).

(By the way, since when did you and Miho change your portrait to one of the princesses', and why? Did you both randomly decide to go with a portrait opposite your gender just for the fun of it? )

I've changed it yesterday when I started this thread. I'll probably get back to the good old barbarian diplomat 001. Grond was the first one to change his avatar to an ugly princess (or as he called her "horse-face girl") so we chose better looking ones.

No, they are not. As a matter of fact, a lot of them look really deranged. Well, it fits to their V&V lists.

Besides, back in those days for many royal families - the available gene pool was pretty small - so I think that it is probably more historically accurate that most princesess (and princes) were not all that good looking - Besides, it didn't matter so much how you looked - if your daddy was a king - then you would get attention.

[chuckle] Yeah, that's kinda what I was wondering, but I wasn't sure. I had a feeling it wasn't coincidence you'd changed your avatar when you started this thread!

I've kind of grown fond of my little princess and I'll keep her for a while.

Yeah I know they were mostly ugly. I'm just saying that the game would be more aesthetically pleasing if they were better looking.

Don't see why this would be a big deal. And after all, yes, few of the guys would be seen on a catwalk either... if it's T&A you're after, go play some Dead or Alive instead!

I agree. The number of games with unbelievably beautiful women and ridiculously muscled men is already too large. The beauty of a game lies in its engine, not in its characters.

Exactly, a lot of moderately (or less) looking characters actually lends a game more realism in my book. Look at a collection of medieval portraits, and you'll see that few of them would be working as models in our days.

Apart from that, when do you actually need to call up he princess´s portrait? You move them about on the map to marry them off or maybe to spy, but that´s it. They don´t gain valor, so there´s no need to check whether they went up in that department.

One of the cardinal rules of game making is that characters should look as decent as the technology you have can make them :-p.

I personally don't have problems with it. Every so often oyu get a pretty one. I remember I had a few cute ones when my Spanish King pumped out 8 princesses all named Isabella. My randomized timer must have been on the fritz that day.

Well let's see: no concept of proper nutrition, no fresh fruit year round, vegetables were cooked so long all nutrition was wasted, horrible living conditions, primitive medicine, and "pure" blood = supermodel? What did you expect? A beautiful woman is and always has been a beautiful woman. In medieval times the most attractive women were the ones that had huge...tracts of land.

Yep, that is pretty much it. I changed my portrait after reading Grond's thread. I imagine that some of the princesses are worth fighting for and that princes might desire a king's younger daughter at times rather than the one offered to him.

I recently had a princess gain ~two stars~ of valour. I imagine she kept my general in line. She survived one or two assasination attempts, I knew getting her into sports was a good idea No daughter of mine will get out of my household without being able to break an assassin's neck!

Say, is it me, or does your princess have an unnaturally long neck?

Is it possible to mod the princesses to work as assassins? I'm gonna order my daughters to sleep with those stupid heirs of my rivals and kill them.

Anyway, they don't look too bad.

Perhaps a little but the picture is looking up at her unlike Miho's portrait which is looking down at the princess.

No I don't think that is possible -HOWEVER- it is very possible to replace the assassin image files with the princess image files. You would probably have to rename the files so they are assassin file names so that the program accepts them. This would take a while but it would be well worth it! I think I will try it when I get some time. Good idea

Ahh it's very difficult I guess. Nonetheless, it'd be sweet if princesses could multi-task and be dropped onto un-married heirs directly.

"The rumours are proven to be fact. Your rival's heir prefers those curves of young boys rather than the curves of noble princesses. Assassination was never attempted. Who is he to refuse a throne of your glorious empire?"

"Your daughter can't resist the charm of a charismatic prince and the prosperity of a new kingdom that has yet to be found. Your rival's heir has now become (one of) your successor(s). May the two kingdoms unite and be glorious as ever."

"Princess % has successfully slain your rival's heir. They do not suspect you nor they suspect her as the culprit. The % Kingdom soon will be under your banner if no one competes with Princess % for the throne."

    LOL

Is it me or does anyone else like training Assassins on Princesses?
My mind goes back to things, just like the cosmic battle. When sword was my rattle. Shield was my bib, and sarcophagi my crib. So come to Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujamaa, and purpose stands for Nia, Kuumba, Imani, daughter named Simani.

They make a good target practise. I usually don't marry them to a foreign prince I wait if someone elses princess wants to marry my prince. The when they get older I order my greatest valour assasin on them for training purposes.

Ah, the gooseberry princess is cult and the single most extensive story around, atm at about 800 pages long.
