Thread: BI: Modding Emergence

  1. #1

    Default BI: Modding Emergence

How does one mod the criteria for faction emergence?

I see that it can be set by date in the descr_events file, however I understand that the Romano-British emerge on the capture of a city (or ownership of a city by a non-WRE faction).

Is there a new file laying this out?

No, you either have to use descr_events.txt or spawn_on_rebellion.
    The Romano-Brits are hardcoded.
However I hope that it would be possible to use the console_command event to emerge a faction, and that CA adresses this in their modding faq.

Hmmm... thanks alpaca. That is much as I feared.

    Where's this spawn_on_rebellion used?

Does that cover all of the emergent factions - I think the slavs in descr_events, WRE & ERE rebels spawned on rebellion and RB hardcoded. Are there any other hardcoded emergent factions out there?

    It's used with the Goths/Ostrogoths
I don't know the difference between spawns_on_revolt and shadowed_by, you'd have to do a few tests on this

I think the region that the Romano-British can spawn in have the "britain" hidden resource. So you can probably change what regions you want them to spawn in.

Is there a way to make them not spawn but be there at the start? In other words to make them a normal playable from the start faction?

Yes, that's not a problem. You can have 20 factions in BI from the start.

I thought that the Romano-Brits and others were hardcoded and only entered on event or rebellion?

No, have a look in descr_sm_factions, it's defined in there. They're marked as spawns_on_event, spawns_on_revolt, shadowed_by etc. It seems that only the RB event (should you choose to use it) is relatively hardcoded.

But you do need to add a map and an image in order to make them playable. Have a look at this:
