    Question Playable Slavs (BI)?

    Has anyone created a mod to make the Slavs playable? If not, how would one go about that?

    It stinks not being able to play your heritage in BI

    professorspatula, AFAIK, has mods to let you play as anybody you wish.

    As Slavs appear later in the game, making them playavle involves two steps. Unfortunately, I can only help with the first.

    • Backup \bi\data\world\maps\campaign\barbarian_invasion\descr_strat.txt
    • Open the original and move slavs from under nonplayable to under playable (cut and paste). Save and close.
    • Backup \bi\data\text\campaign_descriptions.txt
    • Open the original and add the following to the bottom:
      Code:
      {BARBARIAN_INVASION_SLAVS_TITLE}The Slavs
      {BARBARIAN_INVASION_SLAVS_DESCR}Slavs description
      You can find a suitable text, or write one yourself instead of 'Slavs description' but it would be for eye candy and immersion. Save and exit.


    You have made the Slavs playable but if you try to start a campaign with them, you will come up with an empty campaign map with nothing to do because you do not exist yet. You should either modify the starting date so that Slavs will be on the map, or modify the emergence (unless it's hardcoded like Romano-Brits) to happen at the original starting date. How to do that is beyond my knowledge.

    also professorspatula has a mod in the discussion area that has unlocked factions and increased hordes
    pillage, plunder, burn...

    Thanks for the info about the mod. I checked it out but unfortunately he left out the Slavs because he didn't feel the need to add them since they were nearly identical to the Vandals. That made me sad

    So, for now, I'll stumble around the data files to see if I can find the line to mod to give them an earlier starting date...

    I've downloaded the prefessor's mod and will dissect it to see how he made the late,appearing factions playable, and then post here how you can make slavs playable efficintly.

    Just out of curiousity, do you happen to have any Slavic background? We have so many patrons with it here at the ORG.

    I took a quick look at the files and while Roman rebels and Ostros spawn on rebellion of other factions Slavs spawn on event like the RoBrits. I'm not sure but it's possibly bad news that Slavs are, like RoBrits, hardcoded.

    My grandfather was Ukrainian. I loved playing as the Russians in MTW, and was hoping I could play as the Slavs in BI.

    I was looking around, and I found a few files that I tried messing with to no avail.

    In descr_sm_factions.txt, there is this:

    faction slavs, spawned_on_event
    I tried erasing the "spawned_on_event" which didn't work.

    And in the world/maps/campaign/barbarian_invasion folder, there is the file descr_events.txt. This is in there:

    event emergent_faction slavs
    date 47 summer
    region Locus_Barbaricum
    I tried changing the date to both 0 summer and 1 summer to no avail...

    Any help would be appreciated...

    P.S.- The guys at CA actually already wrote a campaign description for all of the factions, so jsut making them playable is all you need short of the emergent problem I'm having with the Slavs.
