    Default Far Cry

I was just wondering, but who else has got this game? I've got it, and it's quite good. Amazing graphics, tonnes of detail, and is fun to play. Shooting mercenaries is entertaining, as the more powerful your gun is, the further backwards they go flying. And the detail is amazing. If a person you shoot falls into the sea, his blood will turn all the water around him a cloudy red. But it's the little details that count as well, such as magazines left lying on the tables like 'Evil Scientist: Genetic Engineering and Bioweapons' with various subtitles as 'Workshop: Creating mutants at home' and '10 great tips on hiding WMD's from the UN!'

I got bored halfway through. Fantastic engine, but the flow of the game really needed to be tightened.

Now, if only the engine would be used for a good squadbased game...

I have it and really like it, but my cd was eaten by a DVD drive (the plastic was chipped off in some parts and extremely scratched up). I could run it a few times after that, but I only tried with my cheapo CD drive in case it shattered, I need to get around to reinstalling it from my friend's DVD copy...

I have it and play online too. It is the best FPS ever in my opinion. Truly a great game with stunning graphics.

I bought it recently and played about halfway through it in two days. However, real life, computer problems and CivIV have prevented me from playing it any further. It is the best FPS I ever played though.

FarCry was... ok. Stunning graphics and great on the strategic level, but gameplay left something to be desired. I had to stomach finishing the game. I learned me lesson... if a game isnt enjoyable, stop playing. I applied this life lesson to other games as well, such as FEAR.

I loved it, and I like the x-box version even more. I do have to agree with the game losing it's edge later on, but that is just because it so unlike anything else out there. The awe of it's scope wears of and you are left with just the game mechanics, and there isn't anything like story or creative design that will keep you interested till the end. This goes just to show how great it really is, certainly one of the best shooters ever, you can only blaim it for not being perfect.

Eh? That the gimmick of fantastic, large scale graphics wears thin once you get used to them, revealing a rather standard FPS is a sign of how brilliant the game is? That was the problem I had with the game: take away the admittedly fantastic graphics and you're left with an entirely unoriginal shooter with solid mechanics, which gets very repetitive after the opening levels.

    Well, yes

A shooter is a shooter, and Far Cry is glorious in being just that, and it even blends in running and hiding in a rediculously fun way without compromising the action. If you want it to be more then it won't deliver, but if you like blasting things I cannot think of a better way to spend some time.

That is an excellent game. I really wish Bohemia would finish up "Game 2"* and release it....

*Game 2 is the new name for OpFlash 2 after Bohemia lost the rights to the name because Codemasters dropped the PC version or something in favor of a console version. There was some legal battle over the rights as well, but I obviously don't know the specifics.

I thought FarCry allowed for very good use of the environment, I certainly had a lot of fun sneaking up on people and killing them without them having seen me.

Maybe if you through it guns blazing it is less fun ?

Great shooter. What I really love about it that it has great visuals and a still a fair FPS rate on my CRAPPY 440 MMX Nividia. Now that is saying something.
It was the first shooter (that I know of) that went into a tropical setting. And i loved the stealth parts.

One thing I did not like is the sometimes strangely placed savespots.

Nah, second time i played through i did it guns blazing, just as fun but rather heavy on your ammo. So I did that the third time too, but with unlimited ammo. Heheh....nothing better than charging at groups of mercs and ripping them to shreds.

I completed the game over a dozen times and still find it just as fun and I still activily play it now. It is just so amazing.
It can be fun all guns blazing but I find I have the most fun sneaking up on the Mercenaries and toying with them a bit. For example, Sneaking up on one man and knifing him, before running round to the otherside of the Merc Camp and blowing up some explosive barrels, they have no idea what to do lol.

I was underwhelmed. It's got big environments, but as far as I could tell that was just about it. Graphically, it was technically impressive, but just didn't inspire any awe. Pretty much humdrum in all other respects, and after the third or fourth frustrating moment, I just turned it off and uninstalled. Too many other FPSes out there I enjoy more to keep at it when it's not enthralling me with something.

Hmm perhaps somebody can help me out here, I got Farcry when I got my new graphics card, just a disk in a paper sheet thing inside the graphics cards box. Anyway I put the disk in and nothing happens the disk doesnt spin it just makes a weird noise and thats it.

I went on my computer and tried to go into the E: as the disk was in but all that did was cause the window to shut down very confusing stuff. Anybody think of what could be wrong here?

I had a similar problem. First, make sure you have a DVD drive if you have the DVD version (this wasn't my problem).

The problem seems to be (imho) that the Far Cry disc is smaller than a regular dvd rom. depending on the system your dvd drive uses, this might cause a problem (as it did with me).

The solution ? Get another DVD drive and hope that one works

If it's only one disc it's definately the dvd version . The normal version is 5 cd roms.

Most likely the DVD problem. I had that problem when I took it to my mates house to show him how good it was , but it wasn't until after trying over thirty times to get it going that we both realised he didn't have a DVD drive.
