I did not think the valour from the general gave the morale bonus, only the attack and defence bonuses.
OK, I get it now. There were two Generals in DukeofSerbia's original post, one 3-star with Good Runner, and one 9-star alcoholic with Dead Drunk(-20 Health). You just got them switched, which makes you just as confused as I am!Originally Posted by antisocialmunky

My father's sole piece of political advice: "Son, politicians are like underwear - to keep them clean, you've got to change them often."
Troops get +1 valour for every 2 stars of command for a general. Normally valour add +1 attack, +1 defence, and +2 morale. For valour gained from a general I do not think troops get the morale bonus. Therefore the nine star general with the good runner vice would not be that great.
Unless I somehow am all screwed up.
The general himself gives a a +2 morale bonus to troops around him and +1 to everyone else.

It's pointless to give him a title, it's better to just give it to an acumen 4 peasant. Ethically, your personal relationships shouldn't interfere with something as important as the efficiceny of running your kingdom.
When fighting against rebels you want their presence to be as inconsequential as possible, if you have no generals to spare, send this guy to boost your steppe cavalry by 1 valour point.

I like to play MTW a little RPG like. Following the generals around is fun.

You are right. The valour of a general does not include the morale bonus. Instead, the general gives +1 morale for every star to soldiers close by (50m ?), and +1 morale for every two stars to soldiers a little farther away (100m ?). Beyond that, there is no bonus, so the -6 morale is going to hurt.Originally Posted by m52nickerson
Unless you are fighting with high morale units or veterans, morale is king and -6 is a big hit. I would place him somewhere he is unlikely to ever command an army again, and perhaps give him a title, unless there are more worthy candidates.

Well, since that's the case - conquer a province in a far away land and leave him in the keep. Then you can count how long he can hold out in the castle all by himself.

This 9-star general's V&V's are final proof of how booze and war don't mix!
I would give your 'Doubtful Courage' general a chance to redeem himself: fix his unit, put him in a stack under ANOTHER general, possibly the Tzar himself (to make the redemption even more glorious) and assign him to the most dangerous place in a battle where the death toll is the highest. Let him prove that there's a man in there somewhere!
