New King Kong 33 DVD

Anyone picking this up this week? I personally cannot wait to see Peter Jackson's 6 minute recreation of the lost Spider Pit scene. He's used evidence from the period to create a version what they think it may have looked like and with the help of those talented guys at WETA has made new models to recreate the feature in stop motion, only using technology available from the age. It keeps in faith with the film, and according to early reviews is seamless. Its sure to be worth picking up the DVD alone for, and add in the newly-restored version of the film plus many other extras and you have a must-buy. You can see pics and read an article on how they did it here - it looks fantastic.

Yes, I'm going to order the special edition with all the extras. The studio has gone all out on this release, and it's a must have for me. Fay Wray died just last year.

Its a shame the only new footage of the 33 version restored is more of kong falling off the Empire state building. I hope one day they find the spider footage but the chances are heavily stacked against it

I would have liked to see the giant spider, but Cooper cut the scene because it detracted from the focus on Kong as the threat. I'm ok with the men being killed because they fell a great distance. What I could never figure out is why they didn't run back to the other side, but that still photo shows why. A dinosaur had followed them, and was waiting if they tried to go back.

This new restoration would make a great double feature theatrical release with Peter Jackson's new King Kong. This film should be seen on the big screen.

One of my fondest memories was having a snow day/no school when I was about ten and King Kong was the morning movie on the local station. Lying on the carpet, watching the tube, lost in a dream world of giant apes and dinosaurs. Just perfect.

(There were only thirteen channels back then, and only what the rabbit ears could pick up.)

It's a truly great flic. But it was only a few years ago when I watched it again that I noticed that Fay Wray was really hot!
