Default EB isn't going down this road, is it?

So EB has been in production for awhile, and I'm rather afriad it is turning out like a lot of the car projects people I know are working on. They start out saying "I'm going to do this, this and this", but then they fall into the "100 dollar syndrome" where for only 100 bucks more they can lighten their flywheel, or buy this trick part, and pretty soon their car is pieces, the garage is full of parts that they don't have time to install, they decided to buy the rental car they were "renting". Bottom line is, their project will never get done, because it has strayed so far from where it started out.

So, have the goals of EB changed so much from when you began the project, that now these changes have lengthened the time of creation? Are they changing on a regular basis, further lengthening the time of creation?

If so, maybe its better to just finish what you've got.

Please don't flame me, I'm just making sure everything is ok.

The difference is this is a free production. This means that it is thier personal time being spent for yours and many others to enjoy. So the EB's personal, lives get in the way. EB's decision is to release the mod in a complete and as historical replica as possible. AS such some of the research done on this project was very extensive research, with much of the research having to be done from university libraries. This is so that the mod is in it's best historical representation as possible.

The reason I say this, is because I'm about to release a mod I made alone, very soon. I started after EB began, and whole time I was thinking "hmm EB will be done shortly, it doesn't need my help".

So maybe I should offer my help...

I won't flame you. And you have a great question. Certainly, the propensity of ambitious hobbyists is to sometimes bite off more than one can chew.

I'll be deadpan honest with you.

When I first joined Europa Barbarorum, my gut reaction was "Holy S***! Is this even possible?"

The ambitions of your EB team are really that aggressive!

As I have had time to see the minutia of the project develop, I have seen these things come to fruition. And much more is slated or in progress.

I can best describe it as this:

A great idea is had by a team member. That idea is shared, and more ideas take place. Some are feasible, some are not. Soon, a chain reaction of ideas occur. The ones that are relevant, adoptable, and historical are put in the bigfat to-do list. The rest are s***canned (many of mine go this way, because I lack techno-savvy).

Sure, new ideas become appealing, but they are not embraced at the expense of older core ideas.

It is not a car that is always being worked on.

It is an artist's gallery, where each piece alone is beautiful, but the artist views the totality of the gallery as the masterpiece. The whole is not dependant on the individual component, instead the individual component id unique in it's own respect. EB is a collection of many brilliant mini-mods all wrapped and packaged into one, with each mini-mod amazingly tied into the whole and made symbiotic with others where possible.

Yeah... kinda like Dark Side of the Moon.

Also, what is your mod? What is it about?

    That was actually quite poetic.

My mod is based on the assumption (and I'm sure many will disagree with me) that less changes, rather than more, make RTW 1.3 (mod is for 1.3, I don't own BI) better.

So I got some skins together (used many parts of webbirds skins to create my own skins, all of which were done myself, they are realistic but are still based on the motiff that Germans have red shields and stuff) did some matching unit cards and got sprites to match, bugfixed stuff, improved the AI, rebalanced soldiers and movement to make the game more balanced (archers/cavalry less effective) as well as giving longer battles, fixed the pila so the AI used it as well as creating a better pila system (I expect every mod to adopt this), balanced the campagin a bit, opened up all the factions for the campaign, removed lame ahistorical units (a lot of units got removed...).... I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff... it really isn't anything special, I don't expect many people (if any) to play it. It doesn't add units which seems to be wildly popular, it just makes the game harder and longer. I use a lot of other authors work, most of it edited heavily by me, so I'm trying to contact those authors to make sure I can use their stuff before I release this mod.

Scope creep is a fact of life in a project like this. But in reality, this has not delayed us like running into new hardcoded problems has. By "new" I just mean those things that were new to us when we did our planning for things, not new as in recently. Another problem is that we don't have a super-fast coder guy. Just me, who is very slow, unfortunately. So fixing the problems took a very long time. We're enthusiasts, not technical experts. Well, some of us are, but I'm not one, unfortunately.

And seeing as it comes from the quality assurance coordinator, it's official.

Yeah, I know it is. When I first joined I didn't know how to change. I've thought about getting one of the roman general ones but I've had this one so long I don't want to get rid of it for whatever reason.

Woad Warriors (is that the name?) are cool. it's only the background that is somewhat... unfitting.

Blah. It's just that I see a million members with that avatar. I like unique avatars, that way I can more easily recognize a member.

I've always been better with faces.

This makes it a pain if you have 30000 twins.

I doubt that I have 30000 identical blond-haired, blue tatooed twins living in a desert. Maybe just a thousand.

    that's why i chose mine

back on subject: EB is going down that road..stop coming here...
EB still at 0.69...just like it was back inseptember

seriously tough...the only thing dieing is teh forum, not the mod...

teh difference with teh car-comparision: EB already ahs all teh parts it needs..just the nuts and bolts (read: units, skins, descriptions, etc, the little stuff, A LOT off little stuff) and the bugs need takign care of...

and don't forget how much time it takes to put together!
