Thread: The advantages of senior members

  1. #1

Default The advantages of senior members

I'm wondering are there any advantages of being a senior member, or is just an honor?

There used to be some small privileges (IIRC no flood control, ability to start threads in the watchtower), but now it is just down to an expanded PM box.

Despite that, I was very proud when I was made senior member.

How do you become a senior member? After some time period, a certain number of posts, do you have to be voted for a senior member? I know I'm far away from that I'm just interested.

No time, no number of post, no vote (or maybe a mod vote). I don't know how it happens, but the usual answer from Tosa or some oddly talkatvie mods is: make good contributions, write guides, mod stuff...

I count over 40, but we non-admins can't do a search by usergroup, so dunno beyond that.

Seniorship title in The Org would not need a privilige at all. One should not expect no more than feeling happy to gain it in such an elite community.

I haven't done bookkeeping, but it was something like: not at all, 5, 10, 20, 40. Main reason for this is that the UBB forum, used 3 years ago, didn't support it at all, the new board did, but I put a limit on it to avoid performance issues. I am overly cautious there, as the whole board has been shut down before.

    From the Guild FAQ:

Senior Member is an Honorific, used to recognize members' contributions to the overall good of the Org.

Contributions can range from creative endeavours (such as mods, art, guides and stories) to leadership and commitment (organization of community efforts, running events) to being a fine, honourable, upstanding member of the community. It is a way to recognize and say "thank you" to those who make the TW community a better place. Post count doesn't matter much: there are Senior Member's with less than 400 posts, and Members with thousands.

Two or three times a year, the Staff nominates Members who they feel are deserving of the Senior Member title. Only 10-12 Senior Memberships are approved; if more are nominated, that list is whittled down to the required number.

Senior members get a slightly larger PM mailbox, a title under their avatar, free beer at KukriKhan's house (although apparently none have so far shown up!), and the publicly displayed respect of the community.

there may or may not be a secret "senior members" club where they can hobnob with the staff on a more private level.

could be a thread. could be a room. could not exist at all.

That's the best kept secret of the ORG. Nobody even dared to question the significance of 21. Apparently it's related to the cult.

1.because it's not the same Tosa as before. Every new admin we get assumes the mantle of Tosa Inu, but starts as a new user, thus a new post count.

2.also notice tha Tosa tends to post mostly in here, which does not add to postcount.

3.one of these three statements is not true.
