Iraqi ambassador Ghanim al Shibli called for Mr Takriti to be "deported to Iraq to face the claims, just like any other (alleged) criminal".
Opposition Leader Kim Beazley called for a royal commission into the matter, branding the department "
a turnstile of incompetence".
Mr Takriti was released from detention in February 2002 on a bridging visa and granted a TPV in June this year.
He has been studying a health sciences degree at an Adelaide university and plans to move to Sydney with Dr Pfitzner, whom he met when she was working as a medic in the Woomera detention centre.
Dr Pfitzner quit the Liberal Party over its treatment of asylum-seekers, standing unsuccessfully for the Senate on a "No Intolerance" ticket.
