after the king dies, how does the computer choose which prince to be the king . Is it random ?

It chooses the oldest one. In addition, if the oldest son sucks then you're gonna have a civil war. That's why I always keep the best son (full acumen, high command and piety) in the capital province and send the rest of heirs to war.

That depends on which game you are playing. In S:TW, the oldest son or will become leader, unless there is no adult son, then the title goes to the Daimyo's oldest brother. In M:TW the system is the same, except that some factions (the Holy Roman Empire and the Papacy) will chose the best general if there are no adult heirs. The Pope never has children, so this happens always for the Papacy.

In R:TW you can go to the family tree and assign a member as faction heir. The game automatically assign the faction heir title to the highest-influence family member. You can assign the title to another member, but this will result in a "disinherited" trait that lowers influence for the member that loses the title.

It never happened to me, but wasn't it Ironside that posted a screenshot of the Pope accepting an offer of mariage? The game sometimes does odd things to royal lines.

i am playing mtw. if i don't want to oldest prince to become the leader ( low stats ), what i do ?? also i figured it is harder for princes to get stars in battle than normal generals.

Kill off your oldest heir. It is cruel, but...for the good of the kingdom!

The popular method is to send him to some hopeless battle somewhere far away and hope that he won't return. Indeed, some would go so far as to manipulate the naval chain to ensure that he won't return; by sending him to some shoreline provinces far away, then cut the naval connection between that province and your kingdom.

Sometimes, though, that oldest heir would survive battles after battles in ironic underdog's victories that he becomes a worthy heir.

Nonetheless, the best method to maintaining a good royal line is always to have an extremely-high influence king. His heirs will be affected and they will be great. That's why the early Byzantines are so formidable.

I know someone not too far back thought the Pope had asked for their daughter, but after going back to investigate more closely discovered it was actually the Sicilians. The Sicilian king had somehow gotten the title "King of the Papal States" which led to the confusion

I have a question here:
How do you get your princes to marry in MTW? My oldest is 45 now and still mateless. Do I have to request marriage from other factions or will he find someone from his own lands?
I think this is important for the royal line to continue.
Just a note: Playing as Turkish in early, took all of Asia Minor except Constantinople.
