Default How kings / princes earn stars in battles ?

When fighting manually what should i do to get stars to my king and princes. I am playing with the polish in early period, and my dynasty really sucks. Only 2 or 3 star heirs i get.

It doesnt matter once you go onto the field. Once he's there it's either a win or a loss, just don't let him route. You can even withdraw him once the battle starts, winning the battle is the only key element

As any generals, princes and kings will get command atars when fighting (and winning) much larger army (number of troops) and tehnically superior army

When I withdraw a general unit I don't get to fight the rest of the battle (unless he routed off board rather than withdrew)...and it has always ended in a loss.

I was a little off on my first reply as far as the general routing off the field has no effect on command stars. He can still gain stars from routing but, routing can make a huge penalty on a general with coward line of traits. Wich in effect negates the effect of trying to gain stars.

@ darkhorn that does'nt sound right, so more detail would help if possible. All MTW battles I've played I was able to withdraw the general bring on fresh troops and the battle raged on. Now are you talking about RTW. I've only withdrew a general once when he had 400 wardogs chasing him. And the battle may have been over before he got across the redline

In RTW, does it matter whether the general's specific unit makes contact with the enemy or not? Sometimes I just let my infantry do the work, while holding the general's cavalry in reserve the whole fight.

As far as I know, the general's unit gains experience (chevrons) faster if involved in melee - quite fair IMHO. As far as the stars - I'm not sure about that one.

Well, there's too routes to command stars.
One is, as described, just accumalating wins. The more wins, the more stars.
The second is if the general performs very well in particular conditions.
For example if he consistently defeats armies that are much bigger than his he might get "Skilled Poor Odds Attacker", giving him an extra command* when attacking against poor odds. Of course, there's the opposite, if he constantly get's knocked about when attacking he might develop into a poor attacker.

Lordrune, I don't know about RTW, but in MTW there is a line of V&Vs that reflect a generals record of engaging in the battles. I've rarely seen it, but Timorous I think it is, makes the general suffer from morale and valour penalties.

Hmmm....I suppose this is possible (it was MTW by the way). Both times were desperate battles and I was trying to get reinforcements on. Perhaps the army broke just about that time as you said? It's been a while...heheh...I can say I don't find myself in that situation anymore as I have gotten more experience since then (shameless plug for my generals). But, it seems like I remember at least once that it told me something like "...your army will suffer due to the lack of your general's leadership..."

I worked hard and made a 6 star prince now. However I can't get my king to die. I sent him away and cut away the sea route. However everytime he came back. Is there another way to kill him ?

The King's brothers are only considered heirs in the event that his throne does not pass to his own male child. The moment the king's son becomes king, his uncles just become great generals....well, some don't.
