Well tell me games I should spend my hard earned dollars on

Do you like Star Wars? I think Jedi Knight II and Jedi Academy are two cheap, fun games that you can waste a few hours on

I've also heard of a weird strategy game called Perimeter that some people find interesting.

We need to know what kind of games you like best.

Due to your age, I'm not going to suggest any M-rated games unless they are okay with you. I feel almost like a traitor, but I've started to believe that the game stores should enforce the age limits.

Hearts of Iron II. Cheap too, maybe 35 bucks. Probably closer to 20.

I'll have to go with Discovery here, HOI2 is a great game and will eat up a ton of time for the price.

Kekvitirae has an excellent point yet again, Operation Flashpoint is definately a great game, and you can probably pick it up with both expansions for $50 or under by now.

Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War is a great game, and its expansion is quite good as well.

The game that has most recently impressed me (well, about a year ago but still...) is Vampires the Masquerade: Bloodlines. At heart, it's a hard-core CRPG - stats, side-quests, story etc - that uses the jaw-dropping Half-Life 2 graphics. My tilt was totally against it - I had no desire to role-play a vampire - but found it brilliantly executed and was so immersed, I ended up playing very much in character. That the game designers, Troika, should go bust after making it is just one of life's many injustices.

The other game that sticks in my mind is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II. If you like Star Wars at all, you should enjoy it - it feels a lot like a mix of Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith: dark and moody. Again, it's a fairly hard-core CRPG - stats, levelling, quests etc. - essentially Dungeons and Dragons in the Star Wars universe. But quite cinematic and adult in its execution.

    Wait for Oblivion.

Or get King Kong, because that looks awesome.

Hello Crandaeolon it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums?
Haha, Org nags at me... ok ok ok, I'll post something! Don't bring in the Borg!

    i'd reccomend Guild Wars Personally
Second for Guild Wars. It's my choice for GOTY, or at least RPG/MMORPG of the year. Except that it isn't really an RPG, or even MMORPG for that matter. More like Hack'n'Slash, but with brains. Or a squad-level tactical fantasy game. Or something.

It's one of the few games that mostly lives up to the promises and marketing slogans. That blurb about skill is not empty hype, it becomes more and more true as you play the game. However, they should mention that it's teamwork skill as much as individual skill that matters; many people don't like the game because it emphasizes the teamwork aspect so heavily.

I'm also pleased about the direction and support that the game is enjoying. Bugs and imbalances get squashed quickly, and the devs aren't afraid of making even radical changes to game mechanics if there's something to be fixed. Updates are frequent and there's very little, if any, server downtime or lag. Balance is fine; mixed teams are being the most successful ones now (but only if the players are up to par.)

If you have a PS2, Disgaea. Somewhere here recommended it to me, and it is so great that I haven't played anything else. It is the Valhalla of the turn based strategy, incredible depth, too many options and bonusses to throw an xbox360 at. Absolute brilliance that will keep you occupied for 100 hours or more.

One of the Prince of Persia games; or all three, I saw a pack containing Sands of Time, Warrior Within, and Two Thrones all for 45 euros yesterday. They're all excellent action/platforming games, I particularly like the second one.

I'd advise Fahrenheit too (or Indigo Prophecy as it's known in the US, I think). Great story, great replayability, thus far the friends I've lent it to also like it.

The Knights of the Old Republic games are also very good.

Well, if you swing by the Sony way, look into Shadow of the Colossus. It's a prequel to Ico (might be before your time), and it's a killer game. Every enemy is a boss! It's ridiculous.

Hearts of Iron 2 is a good choice, in my opinion. I bought it myself and although I've uninstalled due to lack of room, I think it's a great strategy game, but it has a huge learning curve.

    Also...I recommend anything with zombies.

I just bough CK and HoI2 on Friday. And if your list is accurate (haven't played HoI1 or Vicky) I'd say as far as complexity goes CK is at the bottom. It has maybe 1/4 of the complexity of HoI2. Not that it's not fun mind you. Creating vasals and manufacturing claims on rivals lands are great. Just make sure you don't kick a giant in the nuts by trying to land grab before your ready. As Sicily I tried to make inroads in southern Italy and got promtly smacked by the HRE. Who was the over lord of the Bishopric I was trying to take. 6 regiments landed on my island and laid siege.

Actually, the creature's are still good fun (they seem to have more of a personality), it's just that they've pretty much removed trainingthe creature's. It's just a case of moving a slider about. But apart from that, they are still good. But there are some problems with the game. It disagrees with quite alot of hardware combinations, thus stopping you from playing. One major problem is freezing up at a particular place (when you pick the creature) which has happened to me, and trust me, it's no fun. My PC stopped working for half an hour afterwards. But i hear the patch solves that little problem.
