Hi All !
I'm going to rent a movie tonight. Does anyone have any recommendations for something insightful ? Genre does not matter as long as it's interesting.
Cheers!![]()

if you are in the mood for a really cool, well done and funny horror movie pick up
"Dog Soldiers"
"If given the choice to be the shepherd or the sheep... be the wolf"
-Josh Homme
"That's the difference between me and the rest of the world! Happiness isn't good enough for me! I demand euphoria!"
- Calvin
Gattaca.
I watched the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory last night and the Umpa Lumpa’s offer some great insight with their songs.![]()

As Somebody Else said, Gattaca's good.
Other options: LA Confidential (thoroughly brilliant), The Butterfly Effect, The Negotiator, Dead Poets Society, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Untouchables (also brilliant). Chances are you've already seen a couple of these, but they're all good at the least.
Any particular atmopsphere you're looking for? Light or serious, entertaining or thoughtprovoking?

I would suggest checking out the 3 favorite movies thread, there are some good ones in there!![]()

Mate try to get a film called Stander with Thomas Jane as a South African bank robber in the 1970's. Pure class
You know, I heard about Stander a while ago and it sounded good. Good job you reminded me to check it out.

"Bandits" with Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton is pretty funny, if you're in the mood for something light.
Therapy helps, but screaming obscenities is cheaper.
Something bizarre with unusual humor in modern Japan? The Pillow Book. A woman, subjected to odd rituals as a childby her loving father , grows fond of writing calligraphy on the naked bodies of her lovers, and having them write on her, and keeps her own "Pillow Book" about her adventures. Vivian Wu, Ewan MacGregor.

They beat me to a favorite, GATTACA. Also check Emperor & the Assassin for some intrigue. Princess Mononoke is some fine love-your-ecosystem anime. Swimming Pool is also a great movie.Originally Posted by Sinan

Bourne Identity
Bourne Supremacy
Pretty good movies...
Oh, yeah...
"Oh Brother Where Art Thou?"
Scarface, a personal favorite. Only thing about the 80's that I don't mind.
The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy are excellent, as Alexanderofmacedon said.
Sinan, which one did you watch in the end?

Awesome. Thanks for all the replies. I watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Sexy Beast (which was an ok love story). I watched Pillow Book a few years ago, excellent one. I think I'll get Gattaca tonight. Movie week-end ! :D

Yeah sexy beast is ok for a laugh, old Kingsley overacts a bit as madarse Don Logan but makes the film.
Swedish movies: "Fucking Åmål" and "Tillsammans"... both really great movies that makes you feel good once the movie is over.
check www.imdb.com for more info. I think they are available outside of Sweden.
Also, "I Heart Huckabees" is really fun and good for your intellect!![]()

That was such a great movie, I would have never guessed the ending.Originally Posted by LegioXXXUlpiaVictrix
I guessed it way too early, which unfortunately made the climax slightly boring. Great film though.Originally Posted by ghost908

Here's two trippy films worth watching...
"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" - Jim Carey and Kate Winslet. Directed by Michel Gondry.
"Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" - Sam Rockwell & George Clooney. Directed by George Clooney. I must say, it's a pity Clooney doesn't abandon his acting career and pursue directing full time because he's much better behind the camera than he is in front of it.

Though Adrian did a brilliant job of defending the great man that is Hugo Chavez, I decided to post this anyway.. - JAG (who else?)
Whatever you do, don't watch Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. That's two hours of my life I'll never get back.

Here's another one:
1. Get high.
2. Pop in "Vanilla Sky."
3. Mute the TV.
4. Enjoy the visuals.
Not, I repeat NOT, Harry Potter.
I had to sit through 3 hours of that yesterday, felt like 3 years.

Harry Potter is AWESOME, I love them to death, the books and the movies. It has such a great sense of humour, if things like how the teacher of 'how to deal with supernatural animals' quit because 'he wanted to spend some time with his remaining limps' does not make you smile then ok, but I find it hilarious.Originally Posted by Ja'chyra

I like the Harry Potter movies too. Good fairytales.![]()
Sinan, if you’re ever looking for other more exotic movies to rent/buy, then I can recommend “Carandiru” (people who liked City of God will most likely like this one as well) and “Turtles can Fly”.
"The ink of the scholar is more holy than the blood of the martyr."
“I only defended myself and the honor of my family” - Nazanin
I loved Ciudad de Deus, the Brazilian movie. I'll remember those for this week end. Any Iranian movie recommendations ? I watched A Taste of Cherry. I liked it. I've seen a lot of Iranian movies at the local store have no idea what to take.
