Default MTW VI desktop crash - strange

    Hi all!

After having some trouble getting the game to work (turned out my video card was too old to have the latest NVidia drivers), the thing has been working perfectly - until a couple hours ago.

Here's the deal: I'm playing a HRE Early conquest campaign. I decided to be a nice guy this time and never provoke my Catholic brothers. One of the consequences was having the Danish kindergarten stuck between my continental lands and Scandinavia (which I got from those nice rebel guys).

The Danes are just sitting there, breeding quietly - having nowhere to go. Finally, I got fed up with the Danes and decided to take them out. Off goes my king and to my surprise, a massive French army joins me.
We were met by a horde of RK and several units of vikings.

Since I wasn't going to let the French grab Denmark I waited patiently till the blue army got routed by the masses of Danish RK.
Long story short, the French routed, I then decimated the remaining Danes, and they, too, routed.

Now to the CDT bit: the battle ends normally, I saw the campaign map, got the "province conquered, castle besieged" message. Then I clicked OK and the game crashed.

I reloaded several times and found out that the game only crashes if I fight the Danes, they are defeated and then escape to their castle.
If I don't attack them the game runs fine (they defeat the French and keep their province).

What's causing the crash? Before the offensive, the Danes used to have an infantry garrison in the castle (almost full) and all the RK sitting outside.

Could this happen because the routing army (which included the king) was too big for the castle?
    Has anyone experienced this?

Forgot to add: several game years later, I own Denmark.
I never attacked the Danes but kept sending assassins to entertain their king. One of them managed to kill 3 kings in a row (getting 5 stars in the process) and at some point the Danes disappeared.
When I fought the rebel army that remained in Denmark, there was no crash.

Nope, my game works fine. Since Denmark is the only province they own, the crappy soldiers that don't get inside their castle become captured soldiers. It's always like that.

Did you previously install a mod or something? I guess not. I'm also guessing that something is corrupted; the "alliance has won the day" message is missing or "your general has received ransom" message is missing. It could also be caused by missing images. Try reinstalling the game or something.

I know I'm not helping but I can at least give you hope while waiting for other answers. I seriously have no idea what's going on lol.

i have had this too with V2.1...when pressing escape to return to the main menu and also after a 'victory/enemy is now besieged' message it has crashed straight out to Windows with no warning and no error messages. can't find a decent explanation, even on Activision's support area.
occasionally still have battle screen crashes/faults but that's my crappy Radeon graphics card.

My V2.1 crashes sometimes mostly after storming castles.
I never found out why from Activision ether. Now my motto is save early save often.

    Have fun storming the castle!!

I have the same problem and also had trouble to get it (MTW VI 2.1) to work, but it was the other way round (graphics card too new for real MTW-compatible drivers), MTW will run well as long as I save often enough and let the AI do the battles, but when I try to play a 3D battle, it dies afterwards the same way as yours (this happened in several campaigns), I then reload my newest save game (mostly quicksaves/autosaves), autocalc the battle and 1 or 2 years later, there's another CTD (it always happens), I got the feeling that the game only runs well when I play "fresh" games and that it crashes when I try to continue a loaded one, I also noticed little graphical problems such as some buildings in the province view being displayed as strange purple patterns.
Does this mean that there are missing files and re-installing the game is gonna help, or is there another cause?
