Default Mixing Versions of the Game

I bought Rome: Total War at YesAsia when it first came out. On the box it said 'Made in Australia'. Alas, YesAsia does not carry Barbarian Invasion so I need to buy it from a dealer here in Korea. The version sold here in Korea is a direct import and I am quite certain it is from North America. Will there be any problems if I install North American Barbarian Invasion over the Australian original game?

That's a very good question. I have no idea. You might be better dropping CA a mail and asking there, although some devs do come to these boards, I doubt it's the sort of question they would be able to address. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

The North American and Australian versions are the same.

You'll almost certainly be fine ;) I realise that's not as definitive as you might like, but it's not something we've tested, so I don't think anyone at CA would be able to answer that question with 100% certainty.

In fact, even if you were to install say the US expansion pack over a Korean install of the main game it would probably still work, as the game uses unicode internally. The only snag might be in the font handling, and that would be a case of suck-it-and-see. Although doing such a thing would certainly be considered 'cruel and unusual punishment' by the Gods of Software.

Thank you all for answering. And CA's answer is reassuring. If it doesn't work I'll let you know. :)

I got my Barbarian Invasions game and installed it with no problems. There are no text glitches or other oddities when I play the game.
I'm not sure, however, which version of the game I bought. It's published by Sega-Europe, uses the British flag to indicate the language, says "Not for sale in the United Kingdom" on the package, and the manual has both English and Swedish (Finnish?). Anyway, the game works and I'm having fun. Yay!

After messing up my game several times with multiple patches mixed with various incompatible mods, the safest course is to make a copy of your entire games folder, & install the patch you want to use into one of them, that way if it all goes belly up you don't have to reinstall everything, you can just rename your original folder & retain all your save games. Of course you need some HD space but it saves alot of trouble. Currently have 5 different versions of RTW installed which I play independently of one another.

Thank you for your answer but I don't use mods. As for keeping several versions of the game on my hard drive . . . . well, that's a lot of work I don't want. :) I will simply install the 1.6 version of the patch and if it doesn't work then I'll simply reinstall the whole thing.

    Cheers
