    Default Does anyone play drums?

So, just two minutes ago i became the proud owner of some drums (at the moment i am too excited to tell what make, i will get back to you with this), do any of our patrons have any words of wisdom for a beginner?

I would also like to hear what other instruments the orgahs can play..

    I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now

    The dream is gone.

When you have learnt simple beats you can only get better. I had a teacher for a bout 2 years but to be honest i learnt more by myself. For 16 quid an hour he wasn't really worth it to be honest.

I haven't been by a kit in six months but i reached level three grade which isn't too bad. One of my mates reached a 6 but i always thought i was better

Drums is the only musical instruments that I am anywhere near being able to play, an it`s quite fun too.

I don`t have any drums, though.

I used to do it eight years ago (MG, is it already so long ago?). But I wasn't very good at it.

I decided long ago i wasnt going to have a teacher, seeing as a number of my friends play some drums i will save a bundle of cash by letting them teach me the basic beats.

I can already play For whom the bell tolls by Metallica but i'm hoping to learn some Pink floyd, maybe some Def Leppard and (when i get really good) more metallica, most likely One, but i'll need a double bass pedal for that :)

I got 4 lessons of drumming. My tutor told that I was talented at it. But well, if you don't have a drum set, it's the most boring thing ever since non-sliced bread.

I actually own enough musical equipment to outfit a complete small band, and my second-most-recent piece acquired was - you guessed it - a drum kit. I don't know how to play it yet, but I certainly intend to learn. It's basically an introductory Ludwig 5-piece set; the cymbals are nice but the toms need new heads. I plan to get more into it all this coming Spring.

I know some people who play the drums and some others who are learning, so I'll have plenty of instruction when I need it. I'll probably take a few lessons (in the beginning), but since guitar studies are my musical focus, I won't devote vast amounts of time to it.

Well, one of my freinds came round this morning, offering to help me with my drums, but my paretns, being the cruel and unusual evil-geniuses they are, refused to put my kit together until christmas! so i have to wait 14 days to play them!

The double bass is very hard to play mate and takes practise. I was ok at it, doing some simple kicks for a few metal songs but some of that crazy death metal stuff. my god can those guys play and the guy from Slipknot, i personally feel he is one of the fastest drum in the business and can play double bass at insane levels

i know, i mean, it's going to be around november-time before i get onto double bass level, i think the first song i'll learn will be either Comfortably numb-Pink Floyd or nothing else Matters-Metallica, as both of them are quite easy.

And joey from Slipknot, although i aint a fan of the band, has to be one of the best modern drummers around

I think a Jazz drummer is twice talented and times and times better at kick drums particularly than those Slipknot BS. I saw one Latin drummer playing some local percussion with his left foot that was progressing on a totally different rhytm.

Speed is not everything. Something being difficult does not mean that it may be any "good". This is not a horse race. And Slipknot screws my ears everytime I hear of them. GAH!

Its not just the speed mate, its all round work rate and ability. Some of his drum solos have been out of this world and i had the pleasure of seeing one at the NEC a couple of years back and it was simply class

Ian, if you dig Rammstein at all, the drumming is simple and good practice. Most songs are a dance beat at 160+BPM. Likewise, ZZ Top is a similar case.

Myself, I can paly guitar, but not well; I only own an acoustic. I played the piano for a few years, and I still retain some of the ability. Also, I own a tin whistle and fiddle around with it every once in a while, but mostly, I do vocals for extreme metal.

Stereophonics first and second albums are very easy but enjoyable to drum to. They have lost the plot now but these albums especially the first one were fantastic

    Bleugh !

Bassist follows the drummer, guitarist follows the bassist, vocalist follows the guitarist. Rythm (what a drummer does) lies underneath - the rails of the melody. It keeps it in track

    that was fine laugh, actually
