Nhl 06
It kicks ass!
I went and got this a couple of weeks ago. Had a bit of a argument with the missus, so to calm down I went into town and got myself some retail therapy
Traded in NHL 04 and NHL 2k3 and got NHL 06 on the Xbox for £28.
If I could describe the game in one word it would be "fun".
When it first came out, all the guys on the Hockey gaming forums where whining that there were too many goals, no defense, how unrealistic it was etc etc. Then the real NHL season started and everyone started laughing about how realistic NHL 06 was because there was lots of goals, no defense etc etc
The game is fast paced, easy to play. Excellent graphics, wonderfully smooth animations, you can score some absolutely beautiful goals - the first time I worked the puck behind the goal, drew the defense and hit the open man in the slot for the one timer...oh man
Heres the other thing, the CPU is ruthless in punishing you for mistakes on Defense. If you get one of your D-men out of position, they will find the open man. The difference between good goalies and bad goalies in obvious when you play. I battered Calgary last night, but lost 5-2 cos they had Kiprusoff in net, and I had Marc Lamothe!
Currently my Redwings side is 10-5-1-1. Datsyuk is leading scorer with 9 goals and 10 assists, playing on a line with Steve Thomas and Zetterberg. The 42 year old Stumpy is leading me in goals with 12!! He just hangs around the slot while Dats and Zetts do their magic
Great game, if you haven't already I really recommend renting it and try it out for yourself, its my favourite hockey game ever.
NHL 07 promises to be even better - if they use the same engine from 06, and fix the stuff that they didn't have time to this year (due to using a new engine) it will rock!
