    Default Ancient History Contests

Is anyone aware of contests in the Ancient History category? I would really appreciate some links or something.

    Thanks in advance!

How do you mean by 'contests?'. I think online contests where you actually win something are very rare since people can easily cheat and google the question.

But online 'fun' quizzes can be found in a quick google search.

    For instance...

Yes, thank you for the link, but that's not exactly what I mean.

Could there be contests in which you write an essay, or some such thing like that? That would be great, because my mom is always bugging me about how I need to get better writing skills. Writing about books and/or subjects I don't care for, I don't put a full 100% effort most times. If I wrote about a subject I care about (history), I would most likely write better essays.

    Maybe I'll find some...thanks anyway!

History contest...uh, um, yeah. Several of you asked for such a thing here in the Monastery several months ago. I kinda dropped the ball on that one. Sorry about that, though I'm sure I had a good excuse for forgetting about it...no, that doesn't even sound convincing to me.

If you're going to get good at writing, the mere process of it should interest you enough so that you can fake a good-sounding essay even if you don't really care about the topic and aren't really saying anything. I would say that simply taking an interest in each individual opportunity you have to write would be the best way to get better at writing. But everyone is an individual.

If you really wanted to try your hand at writing some historical essays, how about you do your research, write your essay and post it up here in the Monastery? I'll read them.

I, by luck alone, even got a free 50$ Barnes&Nobles gift card once for "taking an interest in each individual opportunity" to write.

I don't know how old you are, but if you haven't done college yet that will cure you of your problem. Sounds like you'll end up a history major like me. That means that 95% of your classes will be graded entirely on essays. Trust me, they're not ALL interesting. I thought I was a good writer before college, but I was pretty poor in comparison to what I became while there. Too bad law school requires you to break every single rule of good writing. %$#&#$ lawyers...

As for those online tests, I stopped playing when I got to "who was president of russia?" in the WW2 quiz.

Yeah, write an essay for the fun of it, and post it here, I'd be happy to read (and comment).
