Thread: There Goes the Empire...

    Default There Goes the Empire...

I was playing as the HRE, and had risen to a rather decent size, holding all of middle Europe, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Scalia, as well as a good portion of Italy. My influence was as high as possible, and none dared declare war on me. I was excommunicated when attempting to blitz the Genoese, but I didn't worry, the Pope was 62. When the Pope died, I immediately launched a Crusade. I was forced to leave the room after starting the battle, and when I returned, I found I had forgotten to pause. There were NO survivors! What a complete ripoff! I figured "No big deal, I'll just make a new one." So I continued on my merry way. The very next turn, rebellion; my Empire is split in half. The next turn, rebellion, my Empire is now a quarter of it's former glory. The next turn, rebellion, only a pale shadow of former glory, one eighth of past might.

My first time playing the HRE, and I understand how fragile they are now.

Ouch, I've known your pain all to well. Thats the very reason I gave up crusading when playing as the HRE. Luckly you didn't have to negociate with the everyone hates me suddenly and attacks me sydrome. The HRE isn't the most wealthies and fighting 6 fronts can drain the money.

Translates to: The General had decided to visit a local opium den prior to the fight and took the whole army with him to experience the exotic treat.

Sounds like fun though, all that chaos.

Couldn't you load? It wouldn't be cheating 'cause you just forgot to pause.

You know, Historically the HRE was one of, if not the weakest monarch in Europe. The Stem Dukes really had all the power, and the Emperor could only really whine about what he wanted done most of the time.

The plus side is that you don't have to worry about your dynasty dying off, because a new Emperor just gets elected. The downside is a lack of loyalty, for sure. I cannot remember a game where I haven't seen the HRE go into civil war. (Of course I'm usually the one causing them... There's nothing more fun than killing off the HREmperor, and then watching almost every province rebel. This usually calms down thier warmongering hearts.)

[sidenote] Even today, many ancient grudges lay in the hearts of the Germans and other nations that were once part of the HRE for people from provinces other than their own.

Though, that being said, historically, one of the greatest military powers in Europe is the united Germany.

Another drawback for the HRE is that if there's no heir left they will automatically choose your best general... there goes my 9 stars jedi knight templar!

that is a drawback as well as a possitive thing

i played HRE many times though i never experienced their "fragileness". never had a civil war and loyalty was barely an issue.

You did not have an earlier save? You would of been completely entitled to loading it and getting a second chance. So long as it was an accident.
