How do you figure their 6 years olds? Takes a pretty good arm to throw a rock like that and break a trucks windshield. I doubt very much its the work of 6 year olds?
Byzantine Prince 07:04 12-12-2005
Their exact age wasn't my point. Even if it was a grown man it would still be insane to shoot them dead for throwing rocks. Unless they had a very stunted growth these looked like kids to me. Killing kids is not something that should even be debated.
Weebeast 07:11 12-12-2005
They're not just little kids. They are little kids who were designed to do the stuff that their parents agree with or support. It's is kinda sad actually. It's kinda like when parents told the kids to have circumcision.
Well, when they get older they'll be throwing something bigger.
Crazed Rabbit 07:12 12-12-2005
Using lethal force would seem to be a little agressive, but rocks can kill people.

Last year around Christmas not more than 500 ft from where I work some kids threw a frozen turkey at a cars windshield and put the poor woman driving in the hospital in critical condition. She needed plastic surgerury and will never be the same. Look at the hole that rock put in the guys winshiled. Now imagine it came throught the side window and hit him in the head. What do you think would happen. I wonder if you were throwing rocks like that at a cop what hed do.
Just goes to show that you shouldn't ask an army to do a cop's work. Soldiers are neither equipped nor trained to round up and scare the bejeezus out of a bunch of juvenile Jihadis.
The soldiers are frustrated because there's no law and order. And they're not allowed to shoot children who throw rocks.
I smell your outrage Gawain, but do you have a proposed solution? Shooting kids would be a PR nightmare, whether it was justified or not.

Nah Im not in favor of shooting them and I dont think the guyn in the clip is either. Hes just frustrated, This isnt a common occurence . It just happens in this one area. I pretty much agree with Weebeast.

Well isn't it lucky that the shortage of electricity has meant there have been no frozen turkey incidents in Iraq so fat.

Strangely enough the people who live there in their own country are a little pissed at the lack of law and order .
Weebeast 11:06 12-12-2005
By the way, I also don't condone shooting them. I'd probably throw rocks back at them. I don't do stuff to others that I don't want others do to me. Those kids seem mature enough to know that.

If a convoy with heavy machine guns don't scare them I doubt cops will. It seems to me people are just taking advantage. It's very effective though.
All "jokes" aside, the parents should be responsible for this. I mean you can't ignore stuff like this.
Tribesman 12:37 12-12-2005

Why should the parents care they kids are taking part in activities that their government approves of .
At the conference last month they only unanimously agreed on two things , one was that the coilition must withdraw , the second was that resistance to the occupation by Iraqis is acceptable .
Kids are throwing stones at the occupying force , thats OK because their government says it is OK , they are a soveriegn nation are they not , or would you like another regime change
Byzantine Prince 14:56 12-12-2005
Do you know what hapens more often then soldiers getting killed by rocks thrown by little kids? Soldiers being torn apart by road side bombs. You so called "compassionate" conservatives really need a new name for yourselves.
EDIT: I'm sorry consevatives, I guess you are not ALL heartless bastards.
Tribesman 15:14 12-12-2005
Now now BP that last comment is not nice , it is certainly uncalled for , perhaps you might want to edit that one and apologise .
Leet Eriksson 15:35 12-12-2005
Well i sympathise with these soldiers, but they have to deal with it apparently.
If you put yourself in these kids shoes you'd also would want to throw some rocks at an occupying foreign force.
doc_bean 16:30 12-12-2005
There are probably more kids killed by soldiers than the other way around...
I think "little kids" is quite an overstatement, the kid who busted they windshield (You got a nice view right as he threw it) was certainly over 10, id guess 12-13 somewhere.
Now, they shouldn't go as long as shoot them. Shooting at them with blanks however....

No I wouldn’t. I would run away and hide form the solders with the huge guns and stretched patience! This is a good example of why we are having such a difficult time over there, not even the kids have the same value for life.
I do agree with Weebeast that it is in part the parent’s responsibility but they it doesn’t seem like they can take care of anything else I wouldn’t expect them to take care their kids either. Doesn’t seem like our “harts and minds” tactics are working on everyone.
they do it cause they know the soldiers won't do anything, yet if one day the trigger slips...

Ever played truth or dare or something similar ? The kids are just showing of how brave they are to their friends
Reverend Joe 18:16 12-12-2005
Gawain, for the record, there is a big difference between a five-pound rock and fifteen pounds of bird meat. I seriously doubt those soldiers are in any serious danger from those rocks, especially considering that they have helmets. On the other hand, it is rather frustrating to see the soldiers completely helpless to do anything about this (even the one who yelled something about "you ****in' hippie!")

That's actually not a bad idea.
How do you occupy an angry nation which doesn't want you there without using brutal levels of violence to oppress the population? Can it even be done? Should it even be attempted?

The UK seems to have beaten the IRA in Northern Ireland now...

We are talking something the size of texas, maybe bigger. With several countries surrounding it actively supporting some faction or another.

"Chorus
They were the men with the vision the men with the cause
The men who defied their oppressors laws
The men who traded their chains for guns
Born into slavery they were freedoms sons
At Easter time 1916
When flowers bloomed and leaves were green
There dawned a day when freedoms cry
Called on brave men come fight or die
Chorus
In Dublin town they fought and died
With Pearse McDermott and McBride
Ourselves alone their battle cry
And freedom rang through that Easter sky
Chorus
A poets dream had sparked that flame
A raging fire it soon became
And from that fire of destiny
Arose a nation proud and free
Chorus
Six counties are in bondage still
They died brave men was this their will
Until we’re free and oppression ceased
Only then brave men shall sleep in peace"

The IRA was backed both by the Soviet Union, some people in the Republic of Ireland and financially by the United States. The British almost wiped them out by judicious use of the SAS, but the public outcry against such brutal methods stopped their use.

They didn't have to deal with 3 ethnic groups devided among 28 million people who happen to hate each other
Then you have syria, iran, saudia arabia, kuwait and jordan who want a peice of the pie. Thats too much trouble already.
Oh my, what a pair of brave gung-ho soldiers...
They could sack those kids and put them in reintegration camps, take the worst ones first, one by one, and the others will understand that throwing rocks at soldiers might not be a good idea....
And yes, I mean to take thwem right with the convoy, don´t inform the parents, the other kids will spread the news and it´s more scary.
Geoffrey S 22:32 12-12-2005
Teargas?
Anyway, there's a fundamental problem if not even these kids can manage to respect the coalition forces; it starts at the parents, and that's where measures should be directed. Not at the kids.
