Thanks for the heads-up.
This entry to the readme for the BI patch campaign map is intriguing:
"There are a large number of changes to the balance of the game in response to the extended play that has been done by forum users."
Anyone know what this refers to?
I'm currently taking a look at the stats to see if I can see changes...
I have RTW+BI and I downloaded 1.6 but when try to install it an error message comes up saying.
"This patch will only upgrade 1.3 to version 1.5. You can download patch 1.3 from www.totalwar.com".
Is anybody else experiencing this?
Edit:
I solved the problem myself.
It was the no-cd exe that was causing this.
After I restored the original exe I could install the patch without any problem.

I'm stuck at work for another 5 hours... bah humbug.
Although... I can feel a cold coming on... 'cough cough'. Maybe I should take the afternoon off - just to be on the safe side...
Added the links to the Useful Links sticky thread
Will my current BI game work if I add the patch?
Can anyone tell me what patch do I have to install? I have RTW/BI but currently playing just RTW. So would I have to install 1.6, or 1.5 or both?

Both.
1.6 seems to be for BI only and 1.5 is for RTW only.

Are you sure? by the file size difference (RTW 26mb BI 65mb) you'd think bi included both. I'll check, il be back in 2 mins.
EDIT: beaten på c-f
Thanks for the link C-F. From that I gathered that since I have BI installed then I only need 1.6 as this patch will update both RTW and BI. If I had only RTW 1.3, then I'd need patch 1.5. Am I correct in my thinking here?Originally Posted by C-F
EDIT: Nevermind, I've read what Shogun said (more carefully) and answered my own question. Cheers.
Happy patching everyone.

I downloaded both separately. And they both work.
It is told that 1.5 is for RTW only and 1.6 when you own BI. Welcome to the patches
/me starts to download![]()
I can't install it either![]()
I have BI and downloaded the v1.6 patch. When I try to run the installer I get this message......RomeTW.exe has not been detected.
I have tried to do a manual install but the zip file only has the auto installer.
Any ideas why anyone?

Are you using a no-cd .exe?Originally Posted by Jochi Khan
If so, restore the original one.
No, I dont use those.
It is the original .exe and both RTW and BI play ok.
This is the only patch that has refused to install.
No problems before.

You haven't played around with the registry have you?
NO. All I've tried to do is install the new Patch

So, you have 100% unmodded version of rtw, no reinstallation of windows etc?
Problem sorted. (Thanks to my Son's good memory)
The patch was finding the Activision folder but not the RTW folder in there.
The same thing happened when installing BI I had to drag and drop all the files into the RTW folder.
Anyone with same problem....move the RomeTW.exe (and BI if you have it) into the Activision folder then run the patch v1.6 auto install. It will then find the RomeTW.exe and (BI.exe) and install.
Remember to move the two .exe back into the RomeTW folder after the install.
A bit of messing around I know, but it works.
Happy Hunting.

Hey folks,
I tried to install RTW 1.3 over 1.2, no go.
I tried to install RTW 1.5 over 1.3, no go.
I tried to install RTW 1.6/1.5 over a copied version of BI, no go.
Why is this happening to me?
HEEEEELLLLLLPPPPP!
thank you everyone.![]()
Did you install to a non-default folder? People who write the install routines for many software packages have a real blindspot for that. Most don't even bother to test it! I never have understood why they couldn't anticipate file/registry linkage problems. It's not hard to do, heck I used to routinely make install packages around the application installers to fix all the things they screwed up for my users.Originally Posted by Jochi Khan

Rome Total War, it's not a game, it's a do-it-yourself project.
The patch seems to fix a lot of bugs, so far everything runs smoohtly, except that modding in religions still doesn't cause unrest for the added religions.
Under construction...
