    just in time for christmas....
    When I was a child
    I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
    The child is grown,
    The dream is gone.
    I have become comfortably numb...

Safe ? it has been run by terrorists for the past 15 years .
Interesting to note the demands of the kidnappers though isn't it . Stop training the police ..the interior ministry police , now I wonder which of the many terrorist groups has a little problem with the terrorist group that is running the interior ministry and its police

So...did Germany stop training Iraqi police? If so, why? Isn't a greater victory worth more than a single life?

If not (i.e. didn't stop training police), good job and good news?

Perhaps the interior ministry was not satisfied with the training courses content , it seemed to lack the important elements like kidnap , torture , murder and voter intimidation .

Iraq hasn't been sending trainees since February (apperently there were some remarks about the Iraqi minister of interior not being happy with the quality) - so it seems there is no link between releasing the hostages and the stop of training.

Seems unclear whether money changed hands. But nevertheless, good news for the German archeologist. The US hostage has apparently not fared as well. http://today.reuters.com/news/NewsAr...TAGE-VIDEO.xml

Please note that the Turkish community of Berlin was one of the first to demonstrate for the hostage.

With the U.S.'s record with respect to the previously mentioned activities, I can't believe you have the balls to try and take a shot at the French.

With the U.S.'s record with respect to the previously mentioned activities,
Come on Goof , the US did suggest that the interior miniser should consider resigning when his torture facilities were exposed .
After serious consideration he politely told them to bugger off , well it wasn't really that polite , but that was just election time rhetoric I guess .

Kaiser, if you think that terrorists can change the German policy - then you do not know Germany at all

German government never made or will made a political compromise because of terroristic pressure. No German Kanzler did it, no Kanzler will ever do this. Maybe you remember that Palestinian terrorists took athletes from Israel as hostiges during the Olympic games at Munich. A very difficult situation for Germany - 30 year after the Holocaust. German authorities tried to free the hostages, and failed. All hostages and most terrorists were killed.
Another example: terrorists kidnapped a plane. They landed at Mogadishu, where a German special task force attacked them and liberated the hostages. This time it was successful.

Back to Iraq. There is little information but a lot of rumours. I think the government did not use the special force because this country is still a den of thieves. Rumours say that the hostage was captured by a criminal group (not political). They sold it to a political group, telling them that she was a German spy. When they found out she was not, they set her free. German government promised to pay money by funding some social projects of that group - hospitals and so....
If this is true then it is good news. Only sad thing is that Iraq is still a playground for political and non political criminals.

But do not think that Germany, because it is not crazy about playing wargames anymore, is not able to deal with criminals.

you need to see the opening monologue of Patton, with George C. Scott. that might set things straight.

As many as nessissary for the victory.

Seen it. I never said it was preferable for me to die, however, if it is overall nessissary for the defense of the United States and her interests, than it is nessissary and I will give it gladly. Preferably with taking down as many of the enemy as possible.
