Thread: Why use Scholae Palatinae?

    Default Why use Scholae Palatinae?

I was just looking at the stats on the WRE Scholae Palatinae and I realized they aren't as good as the WRE Sarmatian Auxilia. In fact the Sarmatian Auxilia (SA) has 1 more point of Attack and 1 more point of Defense and has the attribute of "Fast Moving". SA costs about 130 Denarii less to train and per turn cost is about 50 Denarii less. Plus the Scholae Palatinae (SP) takes 2 (TWO!) turns to produce!

I'm just wondering why I should build the SP? In fact why should I build that last cavalry building at all?

As the WRE, I agree. No need for SP. As eastern empire clibanarii crush everything, so I don't bother with SP or Cats either there. Only in mp do I have a reason for the SP as the ERE (but not for the WRE), and that is their speed and lower cost. In sp where you can have 6 clibs there's no need for the SP IMO, especially due to the AI behavior and choices when it comes to which units to train. 6 clibs can crush the cavalry contingent of any army but the eastern and nomad ones, and for those I always use a stabile infantry line to take their charge, then send the cavs around the flank, so I needn't worry about not having the SP speed there...
    Under construction...

The SP stats have a bug...

Get the Bug Fixer to fix this....

edyzmedieval- what does bug-fixer do to the SP and Samartian Auxilia stats? I thought player1 was pretty conservative when designing bug-fixer and did not expect he would change anything like this? (This is not to say it should not be changed, as SP are pointless like the original poster here said).

    I does not do anything.
3.0X version of bug-fixer does not modify any of unit files.
