Well in BI v1.4 I layed siege to a town, noticed I'd be in trouble if I did'nt lift the siege, took care of the nearby armies, came back to the town with a nice stack of siege equipment.

Did'nt think anything of it at the time, but from the sounds of it you can lay siege build the equipment then march your armie to a distant city and assault it right away.
When a fox kills your chickens, do you kill the pigs for seeing what happened? No you go out and hunt the fox.
Cry havoc and let slip the HOGS of war

That is very interesting, and would make for an odd nuance. Should be easy to test. Build gear, break a siege, then resiege. Also try beseiging a different city (perhaps it applies to only the intended target and not to other cities?)

In real life the logistical aspects of moving with siege gear seem highly improbable. Armies were not going to tote around a helepolis (with its earthen ramp ), or even a ram...or better yet...a sapping mine. They might bring along specialized pieces and tools to construct them, but the big stuff would be field constructed...or imported in sections after the siege was underway.
    Rome Total War, it's not a game, it's a do-it-yourself project.
