Has anyone succeeded at making a brand new campaign map for 1.3 or 1.5? I heard conflicting rumors, some said that RTW can no longer generate new map.rwm so new maps are completely borked.

I was trying to convert my 1.2 map to 1.3, but there was a problem of CTD just when the loading bar arrived to the end.
With 1.5, exactly the same files allow to play the campaign, but it is very unstable.
I mean that I've played some turns (up to 12), and sometimes there is no problem, but some other times the campaign CTD (with no error message) even in the first turn and without doing anything (or only moving on the map).

Yes. WarMap, which was made with 1.2 and then converted to 1.3, 1.5 no problems. no ctd's and it is huge. If anything the improved show_err reporting has made it easier.
1.5 does not need the map_heights.hgt.
