Could be a scratch on the disk? Or just slow loading?

It appears to be neither: my disk is brand new and flawless, I've waited around for a while to see if anything happens to no avail.

I'm going to try posting on their forums for help.

Make sure that you have the latest patch. Install it on a fresh installation of HW2

Does the crash occur just after the training exercise?

It's not a crash per say. It freezes during the training mission.

And I have version 1.1 (installed patch).

Yeah, same thing, it locks up. Hmm...If I recall correctly after the training mission, there is a cut to a movie scene of Tiadan raiders rolling in, that could be your problem(possible corrupted movie file etc..). Personally, I feel your pain, the game is wicked, one of the tops in my book. Try a fresh install and re-patch. If that doesnt help you can look in here for some help:

If not then contact relic and have them re-send you a new copy.

I've made a post in their troubleshooting forum. I'll see what they can do for me.

The problem isn't the cutscene - it freezes in game, when the enemy bombers start attacking the station.
