naginata

hey guys, quick stupid question. is the armor rating on naginata really 1?? i thought they were supposed to have heavy armor, how can they have less than yari ashigaru? and if they do have less armor why are they so slow?

ohyeah, someone was telling me that WM's had their attack factor changed from 5 to 3. is this for real? sorry i'm sure these have been talked about before but i'mnew around here.

well now, we're talking about my favorite unit.

Often the description of the units in this game and there implementation don't match as we would think they would. This is true of Warrior Monks whose "Morale Bonus" was implemented via the High Attack Factor.

Naginata are described as very heavily armored. However there armor rating is 1. Makes no sense, but there defense rating is a 6! This is how they implemented the resiliance of the Naginata as they are decribed.

It makes no sense of course b/c the weather affects Naginata alot since they are suppose to be wearing heavy armor. So they made that part accurate about being heavily armored.

Another point: when you create naginata in the campaign mode, you can only build them in places where there are armories, which means that naginata start off with armor 1 PLUS another bonus by having an armory in that province. It looks like this means that in campaign mode, you get extra heavily armored naginata by default, and wimpier naginata in custom battles and online play! So some of that battle testing would be different SP or MP.

Naginata have armour=5. Where did you get your info? Also, I've tested WM in version 1 and version 1.12, and see no evidence that their attack value has changed.

Ok, I think we need to reexamine the numbers for naginata.

From what I see the Defense rating is 6
there armor rating starts out as 1. Given what was said above, you cannot build them without and armory, they start out with +1 on the armor rating.

I don't see where the armor rating is 5

Can anyone clarify this information for us?

The armory gives a +1 to their base armour rating which is 5. That would make them a 6. They also have a defense factor of 6. The effect of heavy armour in hth fighting was handled by boosting the defense factor.

If you start a v1.0 game of Shogun, you can hit F1 when in battle mode and see all these stats. In the v1.12 version of the game the F1 stat screen gives wrong info for attack and defense values, but I think the armour rating is still correct. I can't check it right now.

I always use my naginata as defense troops. And to absorb some arrows. While my troops behind can make a charge.

I see the info in Gamespot. Thank you. I did some more checking. The Prima Guide has 1 as the armor and 6 as the defense. Weird.

yeah, i read the prima guide and it had them as having an armor rating of only 1. guess it was a misprint? thanks for the replies btw.
