    I stumbled upon this in during my varied internet browsing and I thought it might be curious enough to discuss.

    God doesn't want you to hold office


    Now, I wonder. Is personal competence in any way related to your beliefs so that you can't do what is best for a community if you don't believe in God?

    Or is it just a dumb article?

    OMFG if u also look at teh constititution teh prezidente is allmost allwaaaays referd to as a he OMFG if a wooman bcomes teh preezidente tehy cant do dere jobs OMFGzorz!!!111!1one

    Basically, the constitution of most of democracies created in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries have these sort of anachronisms. It's not important and should not be taken seriously. If it is taken seriously, then you're a nation of anally-retentive pedants and deserve to be Israel's bitch.

    Its a state constitution - It has no meaning outside of that state. Frankly the only part of the mentioned Article and section that is adhered to is the one that no religious test shall ever happen to hold or run for office.
    O well, seems like 'some' people decide to ruin a perfectly valid threat. Nice going guys... doc bean

    i personally believe that this nation was established with a code of law based on the larger christian protestant tradition. i do not believe that any other tradition or religion could protect the initial foundational elements of our nation. i am not religious, but i see that the rights guaranteed by the bill of rights and the ideology of our nation can only be fundamentally altered if anyone other than a protestant christian is in power or pushes for ideological change.

    the founding fathers shot themselves in the feet.

    i have never understood why non-Christians have defended the constitution when it was created with christian ideals. i believe that this is confused. do they think that early American documents were inspired by some secular superlative?

    Well, that doesn't make it ok. If you have a country with (arguably) most lawyers per capita, you could surely dig into the old archives and throw away this sort of outdated stuff, specially if it is already superceeded by other legislative documents. Why the duality? (duplicity? duodenum? )

    Theocracy is outdated nonetheless in the US, as well as other failed social experiments: eg. Slavery, Segregation and No voting rights for Women etc.

    However, Bush does have a special relationship with Christians. Remember, the 'special' languages/phrases he mentioned in a secretly-recorded phone conversation?

    Religion seems to gain more and more importance in world politics these days. Most disturbing is of course the development in US......
