On Samurai Archives, there's a samurai culture sub-site where you can find some info on cultural figures, famous individuals. They include: poets, painters, tea masters and such. Would make good ancillaries I suppose. And some other ancillary ideas from the top of my head: geisha, rival clan hostage, buddhist priest, jesuit-catholic priest, dutch merchant, portuguese merchant.
