Thread: Port Selection

    Default Port Selection

    Trade port OR Naval port

    Actually I base my game on RTR 6.3 and manually adding war/naval port description (base on naval mods). However just to complicate my game further I have a small question.

    I would like to make port selection where player (or AI) have to choose if they want to build either a tradie port OR a naval port in their province. Much like the temple selection where if no temples in a provinces player get to choose which temple from 3 or 4 avialable (depends on the factions of course) and once choosed the rest 'dissapeared' from the list. I wanted to specialice the trade port only for trade income and naval port for vessels. Is there a way to do it (with or without scripting) ?? As of now I have both selection avialable but am totally blank of how to 'link' both building types.

    Err.. sorry if my English is not quite understood... but all helps will be much appreciated.

    Try using different branches within the port complex - as detailed in this thread here:

    My God how inept I am. Couldn't even make it work. Someone suggest me of using scripts. Is that how EB works ?> :-)

    """""3. Upgrades

    I'm not sure if anyone knows this but I was wondering the other day why that word ("upgrades") is in the plural. I tested my theory out by putting a second upgrade in that section and it worked!

    The implications of this have not fully dawned on me but here is a somewhat silly example of what you can now do...

    t1=Palisade
    t2=Wooden Wall
    t3=Stone Wall
    t4=Gold Wall

    Let's say you don't want stone walls unless there is a "granite" resource available. Currently, a negative test for this not only blocks the stone wall but all upgrades. So your region with no granite may never build gold walls even if it has a stack of gold...

    With the 2 upgrade lines you can now add "Gold Wall" after "Stone Wall" in the Wooden Wall's Upgrades section of code.

    This will allow you to build the Gold Wall on level 4 even if it has no stone.

    This does need to be explored and tested more. I trust someone with more time will add to this (?).

    In other words, we can now leap buildings in a single bound :) """

    I found this on another thread. Is this my answer ???

    Yes, you can use multiple upgrades (this has long been known). It's quite flexible what you can do.

    Or you could just have the normal port buildings and have conditionals on the recruitment and trade capability lines if you want the type defined by region rather than by player choice.

    EDIT: You know, I've been looking at that quotation and I think I wrote that...can you tell me where it is as I was looking for it to link to. I think Imade it quite a few months ago but I cannot find in on the forums because (as we all know) it's darn hard to find things. You'd think "gold walls" would work but no, it just gives me every post with walls and gold in! And imagine how many of them there are! :(

    Thx.

    LOL.. yeah .. it's true and the reson I didn't properly quote you was that I was in such a hurry yesterday and I forgot where I found it. Usually I browse all threads and copy any guides that I need into my own 'how to' for easier reference.

    After hours of searching (exegerated) here's the link:

    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=50039

    It's under the title Comple EDB guide if I'm not mistaken on page 7(?)

    About my question, yes currently I can have both type of ports though I restricted the naval port to timber provinces only , but all province can build trade port. I'm currently trying to do ala Roma mod base on RTR 6.0 gold and one thing I dont like about is ports are giving too much income. As Roman once you control all of Italy and Sicily and without recruiting more 'legions' the surplus can get to more than 100K. Too much.

    That why I'm giving options and choices, like if you want to balance to be easier (in theory) like trade port brings trade income and war port bring navy vessels but creating a negative impact on trade. The catch is you can only choose only one.

    Will work it out on my long week chinese new year holiday next week.

    Cheers.. thx.
