My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

So he felt guilty for living a life of luxury while people live and die in poverty in Iraq...a nice sentiment. But actually going there? What was he thinking?

If he wanted to see poor people living miserable lives exposed to constant danger, he could have picked a dozen other countries who are worse off then Iraq. Why Iraq? He isn't Iraqi- his parents were, he's American. He doesn't speak a word of Arabic, probably isn't even a muslim. He knows nothing about the local culture. It's a miracle he survived longer then ten minutes. His parents being originally form Iraq means shit- why would the Iraqi's look differently upon him then on any other American?

All this makes him a good hearted, yet blissfully ignorant fool. Hopefully he has learned his lesson.

It wasn't real bright going there with minimal preparation, but kudos to the kid for wanting to find out what Iraq is really like.

Why Iraq? As an American citizen he has the right to personally see what his country is doing in Iraq.

he had the right but not the brains, he seemed to have no idea of what kind of place this was, it would be just as likely to have him taken hostage as return home safe.

    Oh and others don't?

I don't think the kid is dumb, just a little bit to impulsive ^^
    At least he's asking questions.
