...Why can't i build anything but peltasts, archers and slingers in Sparte itself?![]()
Even the third level barracks doesn't let me build anything but the above mentioned units.

Not sure king, although i've just taken Halikarnasos on Asia Minor and i could build type 2 there if i wanted.
Ah this has to be a cock up... I just built a level 4 barracks in Chalkis which cost me 14 thousand minai and 16 turns to build, and all it gave me was peltasts...![]()
Well...? Is this a bug or intended, or am i doing something wrong?
Nevermind, i've figured it out... Never build anything lower than level 3 government type as KH, the Hellenic local tyrant and the allied free poleis don't allow you to build any good soldiers at all even with very high level barracks... Although the city of Sparte still cannot recruit anything other than skirmishers, even with a level 3 barracks... Whereas it should be able to recruit Iphrikate hoplites, Thureophoroi and those good peltasts that can be used in melee also... Oh and Hippeis.

I wouldn't recommend building any 3 or 4's inside greece itself for KH to be sure. It doesn't make sense to build any 3 or 4's inside one's homeland, as the best 'auxilia' you can get would just be mid level troops you could get in a 1 or 2. But the recruitment needed lots of tweaks anyway that we're still working on.Originally Posted by Dayve
And no type3 or 4 governments will give very many, if any, high level barracks troops. There will be a few rare ones that pop up maybe, but not many.
3 and 4 are designed for areas outside the 'homeland', aren't they? Try thinking what type of government you'd put in an area were you really the ruler, or what type of government would have been installed historically, if it seems to make sense then go for it! If it makes sense for the region it's probably the most rewarding.
