Default General Rose says impeach Bliar.

Prime Minister Tony Blair should be "impeached" over the war in Iraq, a former top British soldier has said.

The ex-UN commander in Bosnia General Sir Michael Rose said Mr Blair had to take responsibility for his actions.

Bliar should indeed suffer the consequences of his actions. If you take the 'top' job then you take the responsibility.
There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

Try this for an historical overview:

It reminds me a little of the use and development of the Roman charge of maiestas.

Not unless you count Charles I...not too sure we would want to follow that precedent.

Edit: so according to the link above we do still have impeacment, well you learn something new every day...

And the PM is not head of state so he has no sovereign immunity and is subject to the ordinary criminal law, including the jurisdiction of the ICC.

Read the article above. Impeachment is an English procedure going back to the 14th century. In the old days it could end with one's head in a basket!

Thanks for the background, fellas. I could post that info into English Assassin's "Things I Never Knew" thread. :)

I had to look up maiestas...interesting concept that - almost a precursor to the idea of power deriving from the consent of the governed. Almost, I stress.
But I can see the tiny seed of leadership accountability germinating there.

I guess there's not much chance of articles of impeachment being enacted, with your other ways of changing gov't readily available (vote of no confidence, etc); right?

Edit: LoL "head in a basket". Sounds like a dish involving cabbage and ground meat.

He should go. Can't take a country into a war for a lie. At least in the old days it was just to annex somewhere. Nice and simple, no lying.

Well according to the article Provided.
The only Course of action Any 1 can take with a matter these serious is impeachment.

The matter of an inquiry into whether the truth was told over Iraq, and whether any falsehoods were deliberate, is too serious a matter for MPs to delegate to a law lord, however competent. Nor can the matter be given to a normal select committee, which has insufficient power to handle the issue. MPs and political journalists assume that there is no other constitutional tool available to bring ministers and officials to account. They are wrong. A process of impeachment could be set in motion.
