Default Renaming and reassigning factions and cultures (BI)

Hey, I have a few questions.

    1. Is it complicated to rename factions and cultures (not in-game, but the name used in the export files and such - what do you call this name btw?)?
For instance, if I want 'empire_west' to be called 'wre' instead?

    2. And what about reassigning factions to other cultures? Is this easily done? And can all factions be in the same culture or is there a limit?

    Thanks

I believe you may be referring to the tag. I do not understand why you would want to change the coded factional tags. They have no bearing on the in-game (on-screen) names or anything associated thereto. What would be the purpose (even if it is possible!)?

    Thanks for the answers.

I just think it might be easier if the 'tag' (?) is similar to the actual faction name. It could get confusing if empire_west actually was a chinese faction, for instance.

Yes, empire_east might be more memorable ;)

Yeah well, I'll manage anyway I guess. I could just make a list of what is what.

Well, it is possible to change the so called "internal faction names" (the names of the factions in export_description_buildings.txt). It is a quite time-consuming process because you need to change lots of text files and the names of some files (like the names of the button files).

On top of that excessive amount of work it has some side-effects that might ruin the game. For instance in out tests at Imperium: Total War we've discovered that changing the internal name of the Slavs causes any other faction to CTD when we are using spawn_on_event and emergent_faction.
