It will be probably for the latest version you can find when it gets out.

IIRC, the demo is for vanilla RTW, while the full mod will be for Barbarian Invasion. I'm not sure what version the demo will run on.

will this be only multiplayer or will it be a single player campaign as well? And do you need the expansion for it?

The mod is on indefinite hold for the time being, the team-members are too busy to attend to it. If/when it continues, it will be both single-player and multiplayer. As I understand it, you will need BI as it will use BI features.
