    Default Err, excuse me.

I'm sure I'm just nitpicking but I was looking at a screenshot on the site and being the Roman Army enthusiast that I am I spotted this.

    https://www.europabarbarorum.com/p/screen05.jpg

I was just wondering, thats an Augustan Legionary, right? If he is then I think he maybe has the wrong helmet on. That looks like an Imperial Italic, or Gallic, Helmet, he should really be wearing a Coolus style helmet at that date.

It's not like it's a really big thing it just, well looks a little odd, thats all. I really love the model it looks about one hundred times better than CA's.

I don't think they wore breaches until quite late either but that might look a bit dodgy in-game.

HAH, if you think not having breeches would be a bit dodgy, you haven't seen the Gaesatae. Just search the forums for that. (just ruined another perfectly good thread)

It should be a Coolus helment...but it does in fact seem to be one.

I was going to say I took that picture months ago. No telling what has changed since then.

Err, Querty, its definately Imperial Itallic, why? It has the flanges over the ears and the back of the helmet drops before the neck guard comes out, its significantly different to the image you posted. Also the neck guard isn't that developed in the Coolus style Looks like Itallic C+, with the neck guard sticking out like that. Incidently congrats to the modeller and skinner that created a helmet I can actually try to identify by letter.

Trust me, man, noone will notice. As long as it looks pretty Roman, the average person cannot tell. The only thing that will catch the layman's eye is if the legionaries were wearing something really off, like the Phalangite-style "dildo" helmet. (I don't know what it is called... but it really looks like an ancient- okay, I'll stop.) Point is, if it looks pretty accurate, noone will notice.

Could you be referring to the Phrygian helmet?

It really speaks volumes about human nature when the bulk of the replies to a thread are not within relation to the major issue, but someones reference to the potential existance of a dildo helmet.

The Roman helmet in that picture looks like the Coolus helment I think, but I can see how it could be kind of mistaken for a imperial gallic helmet.

Those Romans sure were fancy dressers.

No, its quite Gallic, really. The flanges to protect the ears and the neck guard are definately Gallic, however I got confused ealier becuase it doesn't have the embossed skull decoration, which it why I said Itallic, or course Itallic helmets came later with the cross-braces. As you say it doesn't matter, it definately is Roman.

So some Gallic smith in the Rhineland got lazy and didn't put the decoration on! I'm not really bothered and infact it does appear to be a relatively early type so you could say that all your legionaries have the latest kit! Which is just about possible, time wise.

You're right though, it should be fixed. I'll see if I can get someone to tweak the model/skin. Although the Imperial-Italic was in use from the late first century BC, so maybe the modeller was going for this...I'll have to ask around.

That's it- as long as nothing that jarring comes up, noone will notice.

Then again, on rethinking this, if we want EB to be so accurate it is edcational, the helmet should probably be changed.

    Oh, and

Well if he has a Gallic/Itallic helmet he should have an Imperial Scutum. I should change the helmet, it will cut down face count down.

Having confered with our Roman faction coordinator I can now that we will change the helmet to a coolus style helmet. Never let it be said that EB doesn't respect a good point.

Heh, if the worst that can be said is that you have an accurate but too-modern helemt for your Legionaries I think you're doing pretty well.

I kinda feel bad for bringing it up and making you change it actually.

No it was good, if I have bothered too look closely I would have caught it and wanted it changed too. You just had a better eye.
