Horde Question

Okay,

My first campaign with BI and playing with Huns. I have Constantinople under siege, as well as that Greek city (not athens). Now, if I was to siege Constantinople now and settle, would my armies sieging the other city suddenly fall of the face of the map as I am no longer a horde? Because I would like to inhabit both cities.

Also, how many of your units are lost when you no longer are a horde? Is it just peasents or what?

I found you need to divide your starting non "horde" troops up to make sure they are not in the same stack. With the first city you stay in half(?) of the special horde units go back to being peasants, then half of whats left on the next city,and then the rest on the last.

Under my campaign I had my Gen and a couple of peasant to take the last city , against ERE who didn't have a large garrison but it was of decent quality. I had to delay taking the city until I could generate some decent support.

It works best, when you time your sieges that they end at the same tick. So besiege all 3 cities you want to settle down at the same time. All your horde-armies will be gone at once, but you will not loose important units during an operation.

Start to recruit peasants then. It helps to keep order in two ways:
As usual as a garrison
Because of lowering the population in the city.

Yes, there might be tons of reasons to recruit other units first. Some are good, but to keep order is one of the main tasks after you settled down.

As long as you have plenty of units in both seiging armies, it's not really a problem. You don't lose ALL your armies when you settle your first city. There will still be more than enough to take the second city. It's only when you take your third city that all your horde units disappear.

50% of your horde will disband and settle in the first city that you occupy

25% (or half of the remainder) in the next city

25% (the rest) in the third city

As mentioned, it is best to try to time your sieges/attacks so that you take three cities on the same turn. If you don't have many non-horde units, then hire mercs and put some in the stacks outside each city. When you take the city, these mercs can serve as garrisons until you are able to recruit replacements.

Actually it's 33% of your horde that disbands on the capture of the first city (if the horde contains peasant units they tend to all disband first), then 50% of your remaining horde disbands the next time you settle, finally the rest of the horde on the third settlement. That is according to the descr_sm_factions.txt file that controls the hordes as well as other things. The manual is wrong. In theory you can edit how much of the horde disbands each time, so that you can settle in several cities before the horde disappears entirely.
