I don't got any adware with my Opera, afaik. Could you elaborate?Originally Posted by Mouzafphaerre
I like the session restore feature of Opera, tabs are a must.
My main browser atm is still Firefox, it's free like Mozilla and I use
some of the plugins.

You are right, LeftEyeNine, as usual. I forgot that Maxthon in a sense 'feeds' on IE. It has a group option that works like a well-oiled machine (loads my 9 favourite news pages in 2,3 seconds). And it is fast, as you state, even with mega-k loads.Originally Posted by LeftEyeNine
OK, so let's do business, my friend. What makes Maxthon better than Opera? What makes it better for me as (1) a journalist, and (2) a moderate to low security-aware surfer?
Ad 1. I have a daily routine of checking groups of news sites, sites with essays, history sites, etcetera. I guess the Maxthon group option covers that. But what makes it better than Opera's?
I also do a lot of Internet research, usually starting with Google which is still the best search machine. I look into a a lot of secondary material including dictionaries, thesauruses, fact books, etcetera in order to recheck and doublecheck so I don't miss anything. So I need fast loading times for pics, vids, pdf's, any and all sorts of files. Is Maxthon faster than Opera? Does it have issues with Adobe? I got the impression it took longer than usual to launch Adobe out of Maxthon yesterday, but that could be because of anything really -- because of the weather, for all I know.
Ad 2. I don't do a lot of security-sensitive things on my computer like Internet banking or credit card purchases. I don't have confidential stuff on my hard disc; I store that kind of thing in a professional, much better protected system elsewhere, not on my home computer. So I'm a low risk, low awareness user. I already scrapped Roboform. But what makes Maxthon better suited for a user like me than Opera?

There used to be up to and including 7.X. My info isn't up to date it seems, unless you paid for or cracked it.

Master AdrianII, Maxthon has a search bar up there (that can be removed, resized or repositioned of course) of which search means to use can be specified by you. Click the downwards arrow next to the search button (the one with a magnifying glass over a globe) and you 'll have the checkboxes to command Maxthon about where to search when you type into the search box. There are already a bunch of default websites in the list which are not only search engines but also ones for multimedia, shopping etc. specific search sites.Originally Posted by AdrianII
I didn't have much issue with Adobe compatibility of Maxthon, I always prefer browsing PFDs offline. You may be right about that, I don't know actually.
My Maxthon addiction started with a friend telling me "Well I've found a browser, I have never seen NTVMSNBC.com opening any faster" (the news website that is loaded of Flash and banner ADs everywhere). He was right, Maxthon is fast. And since it was IE before anything else and Maxthon has IE core, it's quite unlikely that you'll get any viewing or incompatibility problems while surfing the net. FF has such problems sometimes, that's why they put a "view like in IE" (or something like that) option.
Maxthon owns. Speed, secure and much less bug-free than Firefox from the start.![]()
By the way, Maxthon is the sequel to MyIE2, one of the first alternative browsers to IE on the market.
I have version 8.51 and as Mikeus explained it's clean now.Originally Posted by Mouzafphaerre
