    Default Invasion by dinghy?

In my current campaign (MTW:VI:XL Cumans Early/Hard) I had my assumptions shaken once again. I always thought it was necessary for a province to have a port to be invaded, and for there to be an enemy's ship present in the adjacent waters.

Imagine my surprise then, when an Almohad jihad arrived in my province of Crimea. No port, and the only ship in the Black Sea was Egyptian, with whom the Almos were at war. Indeed, there were no Almohad ships anywhere to be seen. The moors were still confined to North Africa. The jihad, bound for Cordoba (boy were they lost ) was fairly puny and immediately attacked the province, which was lightly defended.

I managed to get rid of them when they invaded Levidia, but how did they arrive? Is this a feature of Jihads, a wrong assumption on my part or a case for the Fortean Times?

for a province to have a port to be invaded
A province doesn't have to have a port to be invaded from the sea. However, it does need a port to let agents visit by sea though. I know it's weird.

As for the Jihad/Crusade, they can use other factions' fleets.

Sicilians launched a crusade to Algeria (they went around lol) and I wanted to destroy it as I was playing Byzantine. I sent many troops to Constantinople to repel the crusade but silly me didn't read the message that the Crusade is arriving in Nicaea instead of Constantinople by sea. They used Bulgarian's fleet (only fleet present there) to get across Black Sea.

Thank you very much for the info. I felt sure it was something that I didn't know correctly.

I had better build some ships to protect my coasts then...

In my Hungarian campaign the English launched a Crusade to the Almohad-owned Algeria from Brittany and marched all the way across Europe to Kiev where they attacked the Cumans. Th Crusade is still there and is losing men every turn but now the British hold two Cuman provinces. Their target is on the completely opposite side of the map.

Hmm. Maybe the Christians and Muslims have a particular problem with our Cuman paganism.

Can't imagine why, it's only a very small ritual that involves taking their emissaries, impaling them on long spikes and then setting fire to their toes and fingers.

Compared to the activities of those inquisitors, we're practically ecumenical

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. They are obviously bigots.

You should annihilate them for their religious intolerance.
