AI Reinforcements in 1.5

Is it just me, or do the reinforcements not come under AI control sometimes despite my telling the game to do so? Is there any way to fix this?

Seasoned Alcoholic came up with a workaround which I've been using with no issues in both 1.5 and 1.6. The thread is here:

Basically, you just need to check/uncheck the the reinforcement box several times to get the desired option to 'stick', especially after you have looked at the enemy army detail screen.

There might be more to it than this, but I've not had any troubles.
