First post here, but ive been one of many lurkers for a while ;)
I have tried the open beta and i'm impressed by the combination of gameplay and history elements that I haven't seen before in any other game, let alone modification. Now i know that in making this mod you aren't trying to create an actual simulation of history, but given the amount of extra content that been put in I think this idea is pretty relevant. It may not even be possible because of hardcoding, but anyway...
Historically the locations for recruiting, and the availability of mercenaries varied a lot within even a short time frame, is it possible through scripting to make the types of units available to recruit dynamic so that they change over time or with events? For example perhaps if a province representing a minor kingdom was invaded and conquered by a faction, some of the units historically available to the province (culture based perhaps) could be recruitable in neighbouring provinces. Im sure there are plenty of sources which give examples of soldiers hiring themselves out for all kinds of reasons and these could perhaps be expanded upon with events triggered on the campaign map. This may be one of those ideas where the finished result doesnt justify the work needed to implement it but as I see it EB seems to be about adding depth and meaning to what is already a very enjoyable game and this could be quite an interesting feature in line with many of the others. Food for thought anyway,
cheers,
