237 Bug

Is there any solution to the "237 Bug"? Everytime that I reach 237 BC on RTW version 1.5, I crash to desktop. I did not have this problem on verson 1.3

I also installed BI and patched that to 1.6 about a week after I patched RTW to 1.5. I don't think that would have anything to do with the issue, but I include it here just in case.

Someone told me that if faction of Carthage does not own the city of Carthage at the end of the rebel turn in 237 BC, then you will CTD. I don't think this would be the case, but I haven't seen any other explanations.

Are there any fixes for the 237 bug in RTW 1.5? I enjoy playing BI, but sometimes I get tired of hordes and religion and would like to be able to play vanilla RTW.

Are you using an old (pre-1.5) savegame? I know the patch readme claims it works, but apparently people who believed that have that issue, while those who started their campaign anew do not, according to the thread in the entrance hall.

I had the issue with two saved games, one was a version 1.3 saved game, but the other was not begun until after I had upgraded to 1.5.

I had the problem with the 1.0 game for Carthage that I continued in 1.5, and I as Carthage owned the city of Carthage. But I crashed in 237BC all the same.

I tried a Brutii game starting in 1.5 and did not have the 237BC crash even though I as Brutii owned Carthage (and Numidia owned it before me, somehow).

So the Carthage not owned by Carthage theory doesn't hold any water but I have no idea what is causing this. I was certainly relieved, however, that I was able to get to 236 BC in my Brutii game.

I should add that I also have BI patched to 1.6 but am using no mods of any kind.
