I don't think the battle maps are bigger, but the battles do seem to last a bit longer. Partly, that's because the armies are bigger - the hordes start off with around 5 full stacks, for example. And partly because defence stats have been raised, so kill rates are lower.

The campaigns themselves are significantly shorter than MTW or RTW however.
