Thread: Most Extensive BI Skin Pack?

Default Most Extensive BI Skin Pack?

I just got BI yesterday and I am absolutely appalled at the horrible arcade-like graphics used for the factions. Blah!

Here is my question - What mod is the most extensive overhaul of the wretched BI graphics that has been done to date? I prefer a much more realistic approach to the graphics than was taken with BI. I mean neon purple and that Sassanid blue... good grief. The faction logos look like something from a Super Nintendo!

BTW, I am interested a purely graphic modification, I would like to play the BI game as it is with the 1.6 patch, just without the completely unrealistic units, banners, and logos. It really takes away from the realism of the game for me.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Well there are not alot for BI. There are alot currently being made though. Rome Total Realism 7.0 will be for Barbarian Invasion.

Edit: After further reading of their website, it appears they want to converrt Barbarian Invasion back into standard RTW. Just using it's engine. So you probably dont want that?

Here, here Gaius...the vanilla BI skins are AWFULL! I keep waiting to see a unit of blue hedgehogs and shinobi ninjas...uurrgghhh.

    I'm using this:

    http://www.twcenter.net/downloads/db/?mod=759

Doesn't change much in the way of gameplay...(it allows you to recruit the Romano-British units as the WRE) but that's about it.
Does up the Sassanids nicely to and a couple of other units.

I wish Sega looked at some of the mods around prior to BI and took 'em as a challenge...but no...gotta have the sparkly kiddie dayglo units...BANZAAIII

I took a look at that one in-game (it's very easy to install or remove the mod over a clean BI, as long as you make sensible backups of certain files; just copy-paste), and I must say many of the heavy-cavalry reskins are impressive indeed. There's a few foul-ups though (like the Sassanid archer-clibanariis' left arm), and most of the infantry don't look too good. The unit info cards are mostly... bad. At least compared to the originals.

But when all is said and done I'm seriously thinking of editing some of those textures into my vanilla BI campaign. The re-skinned German Bodyguards in particular look about six times as good as the vanilla ones, nevermind now more sensible - who goes into combat without a helmet, anyway ?

"Let us remember that there are multiple theories of Intelligent Design. I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

I might try that after I have played vanilla BI for a while. I would rather not alter the gameplay just yet. I really wish there was a complete overhaul of the skins ala RTR, even if only for the graphics alone.
