    Default Emulators

    Hiya,
I recently downloaded an old game I used to play in the 80's called Nato Commander, it's abandonware.

Now I used to run it on the Commodore 64, but there is a version on the Atari ST as well. I also downloaded 3 different emulators for the C64 and one for the ST(e).

    Problem is it wont run!!!....

    Ideas anyone?

BTW I only just found it that the game was written by a certain Sid Meier ... now I wonder whatever happened to him?

Such emulators usually use old methods of memory allocation, the basic problem may be that they are DOS-based programs that are notorious for being highly incompatible with Windows XP. You may try running the emulator(s) through a DOS emulator such as DosBox. Drive a google search, you'll easily come up with DosBox. (It's not something I fully tried, by the way). Maybe that helps, just an idea..

Sid Meier?.. Oh well he is rightfully enjoying what he earned from the best strategy game around : Civ4. Thanks to Lord for his genius presence in game market (What a prayer..)

This thread is skirting dangerously close to piracy territory. No links to illegal ROMs etc., please.

    No. I'd never do that.

Emulators are always called legal. However, it's been a good warning from the start about linking to ROMs.

I tried a few C64 Emulators. I recall the one I got working, and working good, was CCS. That was on a Win98 machine though, and I had to click a few icons. It wasn't a straight .exe afaik.

Perhaps you need to run it in win98 compatibility mode?

Emulators are free, software to be used not always. Sometimes an Emulator requires a ROM and those are usually not free either.

I'm not sure about the status for C64. I recall all was free (or just very condoned?), but some time ago there was going to be some sort of C64 revival with a new device? I'm totally in the dark now.

    Edit:
Browsing a site now (no link): Ghostbusters by Activision, Power Drift by Activision. That's for C64 games. Is that the same Activision we know today? Edit2: Answer, yes. Same way of writing it on the cover.
