    Default Would you of Knoticed?

I'm Just wondering, would most of you of knoticed the bugs in RTW on your own or was it the constant Peer pressure of people saying RTW is bug infested that made you knotice the bugs... personaly when i first got RTW i knoticed no bugs, none, nadda zippo, but then i read forums and it seems like i'm looking into an illusion and my game should be unplayable and if dont believe that I should Die... to me the AI was never bad, Diplomacy rocked. and the game was fun and i still believe that... and I'm sure alot of you believe that since if the game was THAT bug infested it would be uninstalled already and you wouldnt have 1 post in these forums.

That's right. I have no will or mind of my own, and every fault I found in RTW was entirely due to other's interference and comments. I shall fall upon my imaginary sword in shame.

I only bothered turning up to the online forums when it quickly became apparent that RTW was a rushed and incomplete product upon release. I wanted to know if others felt the same. They did. With a few patches, mods and perservance, many of the faults could be overlooked, hence why we haven't all uninstalled the game. That or many of us are lazy cretins who can't be bothered to remove it yet.

I came to the RTW forums because of a few questions I had about the game, some of which were related to bug issues.

That said, the Bug sticky made me think twice about playing the game. I had found only a couple bugs, the sticky opened up a can of worms, or I suppose, of bugs.

I, however, thoroughly enjoy the game, and wouldn't bother posting on this forum if I felt otherwise.

No, I kinda noticed nothing. But I guess that's kinda ok since I started playing the campagin in 1.3 and 1.5. Since day 1 I was playing MP.

Almost all modern game has bugs. Given that these games are huge code-wise, and requires a staff of several game developers, who's typically working under strict and unrealistic release deadlines, there is no such thing as a bug-free game. If the reasonable response to finding bugs in a game would be to uninstall it. then you would not be able to play any modern game at all. So the only realistic response is to keep on playing, but to bitch about the bugs so much, that the game developers maybe feel inclined to fix them eventually.

Though I was not quite sharp enough to actually find the bugs, I did notice something was amiss. The battles lacked challenge, the units were unbalanced, the A.I. (both strategic and on the battlefield) made the same mistakes over and over again. I would have been disappointed with the game even if I didn't know of the bugs.

That said, you do have a point. I think many of the bugs wouldn't have been found (or at least, not as quickly) if M:TW hadn't created such a dedicated modding community. After all, there are many small bugs in M:TW as well, but nobody makes so much fuss about them.

Yeah, I managed to notice the 237BC CTD bug without the help of these forums. But thanks for playing.

Well I don't know if I would notice every little bug, but the I did note that diplomacy is useless, the battles are really easy, the AI sucks at unit choices and everything in general, and it is extremely easy to become rich and win the game.

The bugs were documented, but CA has a very restrictive definition of bugs. There were over 100 problems (things that didn't work as intended) fixed by the RTW v1.2 patch which happened to break the Parthian shot. Additional important problems were fixed by RTW v1.3 and v1.5. The intended rock, paper, scissors gamplay didn't function correctly until v1.3 was released. Diplomacy has been adjusted over these patches and now probably works about as intended, and the AI consolidates it's armies better. Now the game plays about as well as you can expect given that CA probably won't balance the game further.

The AI has been set up to overestimate it's chances in melee which I think causes it to charge with units it shouldn't. This seems to be mostly an issue when the AI is attacking. The AI also has no concept of fatigue, so it doesn't know how to manage fatigue, and it doesn't realize that enemy ranged units can cause its units casualties. These things are not bugs, but they are gameplay issues.

The issue with the AI forgetting its plans after a reload was as serious as the "all kings die at 56" in MTW/VI. CA insisted that it wasn't a bug and was in fact designed to be that way. It was shown to have an adverse effect on the course of the campaign. This was finally corrected in v1.3 which happened to break naval invasions and Roman diplomacy both of which were were fixed in v1.5.

The investigation of the problems in the game was done to make it a better playing experience. Some people were happy with RTW v1.0, but many weren't. After the RTW experience, I'm going to wait and see what problems MTW2 has, and if they get corrected.

I'm sorry but I'm buying MTW straight off, even if it only half works, I know I shouldn't but hey.

Whats more interesting than the bugs are the things the devs post here about bugs.

Remeber the repeated claims to fix the Spanish general? And just the other week Fishpants said that "someone" had changed the Horse Temples on their own. CA's problem seems to be in chain of command, which worries me.

I also suspect they do the general English day, involving too much Tea and Coffee and not enough sleep.

Well yes, a few days ago (v1.3) an equite rider was attacking thin air. Now I had sent him and his unit against spartans, so I understand if he got a bit traumatised, but it's still rather silly to see one horse outside of a city, striking at ghosts.

There were also serious problems with the AI and speed of the units (at least pre-v1.3), resulting in suicidal generals, the AI has never been able to handle the phalanx well. Egypt was unbalanced, you could generated tons of money selling maps, etc...

These might not be *bugs* according to some people's definition, but they certainly are/were gameplay issues.

It took a few months before the missile bug got noticed. Well, people noted ranged units seemed surprisingly good in melee, but the reason why wasn't found out until just before the 1.1 patch.
