As a member who gave up on rome and went back to MTW because of the game play isues, Has BI changed any of this or is it the same old story? I live in hope when I see the screen shots for MTWII.

There's some discussion of BI in this recent thread:

Bear in mind that the patch that came with BI is a free download. It did change aspects of RTW for the better. IMO, the BI campaign went a little further in raising the challenge and re-balancing the arms (weakening cav and archers). Overall, I find vanilla BI much more satisfying than vanilla RTW but I confess I have not gone back to vanilla RTW after the 1.5 patch.
One thing I would definitely recommend is the Rome Total Realism mod. IMO, that brings RTW gameplay right up to MTW standards and also has beautifully done improvements in historical accuracy.
I'd recommend that you try RTR - it is still just for the 1.2 patch. If you like it, you might want to try the BI campaign. Personally, I doubt someone who gave up on RTW would prefer the 1.5 version to RTR.
Well expansions are usually made for people who liked original, not those that didn't like original.
Why would anybody buy expansion for game they didn't liked.
BUG-FIXER, an unofficial patch for both Rome: Total War and its expansion pack
That relates to the parts of RTW you dislike. I for myself love the changes, it improved the original game in some aspects. But yes, I liked the standard RTW too. It is different to old times MTW in many cases but is great. The biggest changes are the quicker battles because units flee earlier when flanked and a map that allows some real over all strategy.Originally Posted by fester
